Re: Porcupine Puffer

Hello! For my Porc puffer, I feed him once every other day and sometimes he gets two days off. I vary his feeding because it keeps him on his toes (or fins rather). Make sure to keep his diet varied too! They love scallops, clams, krill, squid, and more. Oh, I also feed my porc puffer shrimp shells ...

Re: Porcupine Puffer Pee?

Okay! You don't think it could've been a release of unfertilized eggs or something? It looked milky in color as it slowly drifted off and diluted, and I heard females will occasionally do that? Lol.

Oh, and what about the split discoloration on the belly thing? Are there any ideas on that?

Re: Porcupine Puffer Pee?

He or she has a varied diet; I feed him a carnivorous mix that contains scallops, clams, mussels, krill, octopus and probably more. The food is thawed and then fed to him, although I used to feed it to him frozen thinking it wouldn't matter. I also feed him gut loaded omega 3 brine shrimp cubes occa...

Porcupine Puffer Pee?

Hello! I have a 3-4 inch juvenile porcupine puffer and have had him for about a year! Anyways, I was watching him after placing some fake seaweed around in the tank so he'd have more hiding places in his 35 gal (yes, I plan on upsizing when I can to a 75-120 gal tank), and he sucked in water like he...

Re: Porcupine Puffer Belly

Alright, sorry for the very late response! It's very hard to get a good picture of the color difference on his belly, but I can say, it's white on one side and then a darker shade of yellow on the other side. Really weird! Also sometimes I notice little white marks on his face, which I assume could ...

Re: Porcupine Puffer Belly

It's really difficult to so I don't think I can but I'll try to in the morning. His belly seems to be often that way but not always. I'll probably add some bacteria starter product as well, but those bottles are expensive. :)

Porcupine Puffer Belly

Hello! I wanted to ask why porcupine puffer's belly has split discoloration! One side is white with the other often being an orange-y color. He also was recently bitten by my snowflake eel that I gave back to my LFS a few days ago; now my porc has tiny white marks by his eye and lip (I'm assuming fr...

Re: Porc Discoloration?

I see. Even if I put in more hiding spaces for the eel with live rock, they'll still go after each other? I love my porc but I would really hope I could house him with an eel of some sort. Is there anything in a 35 gal that I can put in with my 3 inch porc puffer?

Re: Porc Discoloration?

Yeah, that was one issue. Sadly my puffer keeps trying to go by the snowflake eels rocks and he bit him a few times now! Since I have to go to work I put the eel in a breeding box so they can't pick at each other. Will my puffer learn not to bother the eel or is it just his instinct?

Re: Porc Discoloration?

I had really wanted a golden dwarf moray eel (they not only look stunning but stay small); sadly, I can't afford one yet. Snowflake eels were my second option as they're less expensive and stay smaller than other eels.

Re: Porc Discoloration?

I don't plan on adding another fish in this tank as it's too small, but I thought an eel would do as they seem more passive and spend most of their time hiding -- he's a baby snowflake eel.

Re: Porc Discoloration?

Hopefully my other reply went through! It doesn't show on my page for some reason. Also, just again wanted to mention I appreciate the info! I'm pretty sure the rock's the guy is giving away are live rocks from a well established tank but I'd have to check again. I researched a lot into puffers and ...

Re: Porc Discoloration?

Yep! For now he's in a 35 gal until I get a bigger tank. :) I'm not really sure what kinda live rock I'll be getting -- I'll be shopping with my mom to look around. Oh, also, I was gonna add, My porc is a butt towards other fish, and the eel isn't an exception. He kept obnoxiously hovering around hi...

Re: Porc Discoloration?

Well, My 20 gal was established but my new 35 gal is not; basically I took the established water from my old tank and placed it in the 35 gal (the rest of the water was from my mother's 75 gal tank that is also well established). I also use my filter from my 20 gal with the filter the new one came w...

Re: Porc Discoloration?

Thanks so much for your reply! I don't have much live rock in there; only about two decent sized rocks with a little fake rock cave that Nergigante (my porc) loves. Fortunately, it seems I will be getting more live rock on Friday from a guy who's giving away his live rocks for a dollar a pound. :D
