Just to update, we took him out and tried again to remove what was there. It was completely attached/part of him, and could not be removed.

He is now swimming at the rainbow bridge and no longer suffering

He's just had some mussel to eat, and we have done 2 x 30l water changes since Friday, with a slight salt increase, so we'll keep going with that, too..

Yep, we add the first, shake, then the second, shake for 30 seconds, then wait 5 minutes... The colour never changes!
