I bet Martin had no idea the can of worms he opened up  lol! But 'its all good'. Sometimes I wonder if keeping fish is all a big crapshoot with all the misinformation out there. :? Some are started by highly renown folks. Sometimes it goes for decades before being proved a myth. Who knows. pr...

(IMHO) : A SG of 1.005 is barely brackish... That might be somewhat true but take about 75% or more of the freshwater plants out there and put em in 1.005 and watch them quickly die. Just another way to look at it. Another thing to look at is simply because the fish is hardy doesnt mean we should p...

Wow thats a long trip, glad to hear the fella made the trip ok. That sucks the inverter wouldnt power it... was it rated high enough? Perhaps some inverters just dont put out a good enough sine wave, like I said in my previous post all the motor devices I plugged in got alot louder, but they all wor...

I got mine I think from petco, was the only time I had been in there and I saw fig8's for the first time cheap. They are sort of rare it seems in most lfs. They were 3-something each. Conditions were bad, sunken bellies, there were feeder guppies in with them that were bigger then they were. And som...

pic #7 is great -- you can really see his chompers ! Actually I am getting worried I may have to trim his teeth after not too long. :? I tried something a bit different with these photos I linked in my first post - I actually shot them in the complete darkness using only a flash. Its not perfected ...

New pics a video of my Fig 8's
Tried taking some pics of my puffers today, a couple pics came out ok. Man I really need a dslr! But instead I just bought a big fish tank, doh! Here is a short wmv video clip 'hand feeding' my puffers sort of: http://tristan.homelinux.net/fish/movies/puffer_feeding.wmv sorry the compression seemed ...

You probably already know this but here are a few things. The valls are sensative to Excel, although they do well in brackish water. I have pretty much killed all mine of with Excel. If you go the injected co2 route the bio-wheels will gas of some co2, not sure to what extent though, but either you ...

Re: update
Crazy: How is this planted brackish coming along? Current SG/conditions? Well... so so. The first thing after my last post was that the Jungle Vall started dieing. They are pretty much all gone, so I am really thinking about trying pressurized co2 since I really want the val. I am still nervous abo...

Re: Building Brackish on a snowy day
I've been reading that Bumblebee gobies requiere a lot of caves/hiding places so that it my next objective. Would 6 Bumblebees require 6 different hideouts? Would the Bumblebees be annoyed with all the lighting(130w for 55g)? I've heard some brackish fish don't like a lot of light - would this incl...

Hold on a second I think this is all going off on a tangent :o CO2 is extremely beneficial to plants and is almost required in heavily planted tanks, and is the best deterrent against most algea (when the plants are flourishing in it anyhow). It shouldnt be too hard to measure, there are a few metho...
