But do the organs look normal? I have no experience with diseased fish in that way. I was told that some causes of death will be obvious, i.e. parasites will be visible in the intestines.
Someone just said it looks like TB/wasting disease. I notice that one of the symptoms is the bent spine. hmm...

Re: Bent puffer!!!
I have read through that before. A quick re-read and I didn't notice anything about parasites causing contortions of the spine.
btw it also says that signs of parasites are both "frantic for food" and "loss of appetite" lol

Autopsy of GSP
I have not had much luck with GSPs lately. My second little green friend succumbed to his illness yesterday. He was no doubt already weak from his trip to the LFS, where the tank already had cottony fungus that appeared on him the day after I brought him home, which I successfully rid him of. Unfort...

Re: Bent puffer!!!
He could be eating more... but emaciation would be symmetrical, wouldn't it? This guy is definitely not symmetrical - here he is from the aerial view.

Bent puffer!!!
Why is this little guy bent?!? I got him from the LFS this time, after my last GSP from walmart did not survive. This guy came with mouth fungus, which I treated with mel/pim treatment. But now he is bent! He spends an inordinate amount of time parked with his belly on the sand; I don't know if this...

Re: First Mbu. Dead in a week
Sorry for your loss :( Likely the infections were already present before you got him; the act of transporting him caused him to become stressed and that allowed them to manifest and take hold after a few days after his immune system was weakened. I had the same thing happen with some tetras recently...

Re: F8 acting very strange
He has resumed eating!!! Finally took a few bites of a shrimp just now! I am so happy; I thought I was going to have to tube feed him. I guess the medicine worked. I had no idea parasites could affect his coordination so much. I know starving humans can die from eating a large portion of food, are f...

Tube feeding equipment
What is the trade name of the long catheter tip that can be attached to a standard slip tip syringe as shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... wtGekrCbU4
Or can someone link to where you buy feeding tubes that are small enough to feed small fish?
Thank you!

Re: F8 acting very strange
Finally something to report at least, after almost two weeks of not eating, I noticed some white stuff hanging out if his anal opening... Not "stringy" really but definitely not hard yellow like their normal droppings. It was almost fluffy, but also shiny white, almost mucousal in appearan...

Re: KH poisoning?
I have tried using an RODI system; it burns through the media way too fast. A cylinder of mixed ion resin lasts maybe 50-100 gallons. When using only RO, with the incoming TDS at ~80 after the RO membrane it is ~10, but this does not last. 100 gallons later and it is up to 35. Replacing the 5 and 1 ...

Re: KH poisoning?
That is correct. It is from a well actually. To be fair it could be the API test that is inherently flawed- it may not work at such a low pH; I don't know. I do know their pH test does not work. Also I know that whenever I test my water it shows as <1 GH and KH both. As I start raising the pH the te...

Re: KH poisoning?
This is precisely where it is. Over 30 degrees KH, by the time I get it above 7 pH. (Before treatment it is 0 degrees at a pH of 4.5) Most people assume that a high KH means a high pH; and this is true if you start with normal water. If you start with water that has been made highly acidic by whatev...

Re: KH poisoning?
I realize that using crushed coral or argonite would be optimal, but what if the starting pH of the water is too low due to extremely high dissolved CO2? I fear the shock of adding the untreated water would be too much before the argonite had a chance to work. Assuming that before the water can be a...

What level of KH is toxic to a F8 puffer?
What KH would be fatal? What KH would be high enough to shorten their life but not show any signs?
And what would be the signs of acute KH overdose?

Re: F8 acting very strange
I assume you mean stop adding salt until he is better? I will not add any; I didn't really think that would be the cause anyway.
How long do they normally take until they will start eating again?
