Re: Porcupine Fish Behavior Change

You may be correct in thinking the fish ate too much. I'd try to get that nitrate down. Are you running a protein skimmer? How much live rock is in there? How deep is the sandbed? How large is the fish? Thank you for the reply , the fish is currently back to acting normal but I will be doing a seri...

Porcupine Fish stressed presumably due to Nitrate spike.

1: water parameters Ph:8.3 Salinity: 1.023 Ammonia 0 , Nitrite 0, Nitrates 40: unable to detect 2: 75 gallon (I understand this is a bit small for a Porcupine Fish, but it’s only about 4inches so I thought it would be fine for a start) Inhabitants: Porcupine Fish, 2 Blue Legged Hermit Crabs 3: Food:...

Re: Porcupine Fish seems to be interested in food but eventually spits out and starts swimming frantically around the ta

You are exactly right, I would not have an appetite either. I ended up getting the little one to feed on some clams (which is odd considering it had no interest in them before). I ended up drip acclimating it for about 4 hours so I could add it to an established aquarium. As of now it is doing quite...

Porcupine Fish seems to be interested in food but eventually spits out and starts swimming frantically around the tank.

Water parameters are based from the current hyposalinity setup in a separate hospital tank, I’m currently bringing the salinity up* 1: water parameters Ph:8.0 Salinity: 1.014 Ammonia:0.50, Nitrite: 1, Nitrate: 20 2: 20 gallon (I understand I should have opted for a bigger tank but this is what I had...

Hyposalinity Question

*Water parameters are based from the current hyposalinity setup in a separate hospital tank* 1: water parameters Ph:8.0 Salinity: 1.009 Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates: Both 0, I made sure to do two test to make sure Nitrite was actually 0 and this is how it read both times. 2: 20 gallon (I understand I ...

Re: Basement Aquarium Idea, Any Advice Will Be Helpful !

Thank you for the reply ! I have not started the process yet because I’m currently back on my college campus with my fish and I’m also treating the fish for crypt currently. I still plan on doing this though and yes ! I plan to use several heaters given the large size of the tub and the fact it is g...

Re: 3 White Spots, but they dont look like ick ?

A little update: As I have continued to watch my fish it appears there have been more blotches popping up on the fins. The initial ones I reported about are seemingly “faded”. They are all different sizes for the most part and I’m not for sure if it is ick but I have seen a few white spots on the f...

Re: 3 White Spots, but they dont look like ick ?

Hi, I do see these occasionally on my fish's fins. too. They seem to just go away on their own. Are they getting larger? Thank you for the reply ! I checked again today and they seem to still be the same , I will definitely monitor them. When feeding the fish squid this morning it ate normally and ...

Basement Aquarium Idea, Any Advice Will Be Helpful !

Hi ! I have this Aquarium idea that I would like to get advice on or maybe even receive some other ideas from you guys. I am planning on getting a round stock tank that holds around 120 gallons of water. This idea was given to me from a few videos I have seen about these types of aquarium setups and...

Re: Porcupine Fish Foods: Is blanched ok ?

I would think that would "cook" the food. Does it say ready for human consumption? It does not , and there are clams in the package and it states that those are cooked (won’t be using) while the Octopus, Squid , and Squid rings were blanched. I will also note that it does not state that a...
