Re: New Puffer ID

hi, this is an intersting thing: i have seen this species (at least i think it is the same one) very often in the red sea of együt, where it is very common in some parts. the only species known from the red sea that look like this one are amblyrchynchotes honckennii an torquigener hypselogeneion ( h...

Re: Puffer ID please... and thank you

hi,
the picture shows a female carinotetraodon borneensis. here in germany they are very rare to find. if they should also have males and if the pics are showing their real fish, i would buy them!

Re: I.D. question again...

hi, the pics are very bad but on a first glance they look like a m. cochinchinensis. it is right that they are usually very aggressive or better to say see other tankmates as prey. if yours does not behave that way, you ar maybe a lucky guy. t. cutcutia by the way is usually much more agressive! mar...

Re: I.D. question again...

hi, the pic in the link shows a m. cochinchinensis, the pic shown here by the user is hard to tell. the two species are very different in their behavior and do not even belong to one family yet. so you should sooner or later get clear, whicht species you are keeping there. why don't you show a pictu...

Re: puffer i.d.

hi,
there are no carinotetraodon-species living in papua-new guinea.
the only puffer-species in that area that is also entering freshwater not only occasionally is t. erythrotaenia.
by the way: he has also made a perfect decription of that species.

Re: puffer i.d.

hi,
the fish that you probably have is a tetraodon erythrotaenia: http://fishbase.org/Summary/speciesSumm ... throtaenia
it is right that they are quite rare, but it is no "dwarf"-species: they grop up to about 8cm.

Re: T. ocellatus - tail turning red?

hi, red fins are often a sign for bakterial diseases. i have kept this species only for some weeks and like most of the keepers they have died then. in the beginning all fins where hyaline, int he last days the went red like in the description here. all the keepers of this species that i know have m...

Re: Turgidus anyone?

hi, the problem is still that m.turgidus and m.cochinchinensis are nearly not differentiable with only using the scientific "written material". therefore it is hard to tell if someone really has a trugidus. it is also been prooved that m.cochinchinensis cross-breeds with m.abei. and it see...
