Treating Septicemia
Hello, I have 6 T. schoutedeni puffers, 15 one-line tetras, 6 upside-down catfish, and two bristlenose plecos in a 125g tank. One of the tetras has septicemia. The upside-down cats that I can see and all of the puffers seem fine. Three questions: 1. Should I treat the whole 125g tank or put all of t...

Doxycyline
Greetings,
As an academic question, is doxycycline safe to give fw puffers? If so, is it safe mixed in both food and dissolved in water?
Thanks! Astrid

Re: Tetradon shoutedeni aggression to each other
My schoutedeni have never showed aggression to the other fish in the tanks, only to one another. Agree that a 150l tank for three is not enough space. In my experience, not enough space and competition for food are the two main reasons for aggression. Breaking up lines of sigh as Donna w mentions is...

Re: Tetraodon Schoutedeni (Spotted Congo Puffer) food
Ramshorn snails are a surefire hit in this house. You may want to try those. The ramshorns might be too big for them. For my 3'' schoutedeni, I smush the ramshorns with the back of a spoon before feeding them to the puffers. They have trouble eating them otherwise and usually give up if I don't do t...

Having a tank too small for the inhabitants and without proper lines of sight can exacerbate aggression.

That is a lot of fish in with even a schoutedeni. What size is your tank? This could be overcrowded and the puffer acting accordingly.

Re: Tetraodon Schoutedeni (Spotted Congo Puffer) food
I have 7 schoutedeni and they are all picky about the size of the food in addition to the type of food. Mysis shrimp are too small, I think. The following is the result of lots of trial and error. Would recommend trying -thawed raw shrimp and thawed raw mussels cut into pinkie nail or smaller size p...

I just couldn't find any solid info online and only one instance of someone feeding it on TPF, so was exercising an abundance of caution . Thanks, PP!

Conch as food
Hello All,
I found some fresh raw conch meat at my local grocery, and just wanted to double check that it isn't poisonous to my schoutedeni? I froze it then thawed it and soaked it in vitachem, and will cut it up and feed it to them as long as it's not toxic.
Thanks in advance.
Astrid

There are some reputable online sellers. I've had good experiences with several online sellers, including but not limited to, The Wet Spot Tropical Fish, ExoticFish Shop on Ebay, Dave's Fish, Select Aquatics, Aquatic Arts, and Wes, of course.

Re: Spotted Congo possible parasite
I'd still recommend you include snails in the diet even though PufferPunk is of course, correct, that they don't tend to have dental issues like some other puffer species. I feed mine ramshorns about the size of their eyes at least once or twice a week. They LOVE them. It's their favorite food, all ...
