Re: Sooo much algae!
I've been having a lot of problems with algae in my freshwater dwarf puffer tank, so I've been doing research for ways to get rid of it. In my case the algae is a blue-green colour, which means it's a mix of bacteria and algae. Now it's under control though I still have some algae hanging around. He...

Re: Newbie to pea puffers and this forum.
Hii I have a planted tank with 2 amano shrimps, 4 cherry shrimps, snails and 4 neon tetras. Recently I bought 2 baby pea puffers (Sweet Pea & Puffy) however after a day Puffy was no where to be found but Sweet Pea has been active ever since. It's been a couple days and I haven't seen Puffy. I'm...

Re: Back in the Game - So Many Choices
Are you only interested in freshwater species? I have a 40 gal high brackish tank with Pudgy the green spotted puffer. He's fully grown, around 6 inches long and his belly is the size of a plum. I've had him for nearly 2 years. He follows me around the tank and will only eat from my hand. Once he's ...

Re: Newbie here...thoughts on pea puffers vs. figure 8's ??
I'm keeping dwarf puffers now (5 in a 15 gal tank), I used to have figure 8's. Here are the pros and cons I'm aware of: Figure 8 Pro - Colourful and beautiful to look at - Small size, one can be kept in 15 gal though you should add 10 gal for each additional fish - Fun to watch, busy - Can be kept w...

Re: Algae control with DPs
Maybe the bioload is just too much. 5 of them would be better in about a 25-30g. If you're going to be adding ANY fish, I'd definitely upgrade! Lots of folks have success keeping a shoal of otocinclus with DPs. Yes I'd like a bigger tank. I like the Flex a lot but I had forgotten that the one I hav...

Algae control with DPs
I have five Dwarf Puffers in a 15 gal Fluval Flex tank. I've had them for about a year. I'm getting a lot of algae buildup in the tank, it's a thick blue green coating that covers the substrate (black sand), plants and decor. I always end up sucking out what seems like half a pound of the stuff ever...

Pudgy the GSP being hand fed
https://www.bitchute.com/video/c9iD9LWDYYHx Sorry this is on Bitchute which does not allow the same code as YouTube. I accidentally deleted the file after I uploaded it, so I'm stuck on BitChute. P.s. I should have used YouTube, Bitchute is lousy, restricts sharing, has no instructions, doesn't let...

Re: Keeping Dwarf Puffers happy?
I know this reply is a bit late but I don't log in here very often. I hope it will help anyway, and perhaps help other new keepers of dwarf puffers, also known as pea puffers. I've been keeping 5 of them for a year in a Fluval nano tank (I think 17 gal). I'm guessing your puffer is lonely. This is o...

Re: Basic equipment for switch from brackish to marine
It has bigger bubbles in the top collection chamber and the microbubbles below that. Overnight it has pulled some blackish green skimmate, so I think it's working now. I was fiddling with the water level setting yesterday so it would look similar to the ones I saw on YouTube. On the video they said ...

Re: Basic equipment for switch from brackish to marine
I bought an Ehopps PSK-75H skimmer second hand and installed it today. I downloaded the manual and watched some YouTube videos to figure out how to set it up. It seems to be working (though not skimming much yet), I hope it doesn't end up flooding my floor! I moved one of the freshwater HOB filters ...

Re: Basic equipment for switch from brackish to marine
Yup. I was looking for rock today and at the same time I looked up how to cure it. I found a couple of local reef supply shops that carry cured rock.

Re: Basic equipment for switch from brackish to marine
Thanks for the info! Do I need to add both to the tank at the same time or should I add the skimmer first?Pufferpunk wrote: ↑Wed Jul 25, 2018 6:57 pm You need a protein skimmer, HOB is fine & 1 1/2-2lbs live rock/gallon. You must be sure the live rock is cured.

Basic equipment for switch from brackish to marine
I've been doing a lot of research on equipment for a marine setup but the more I read, the more confused I become. I know a lot depends on what I'll be keeping in my tank. I don't want to go bankrupt buying equipment I don't need, so I need to know what I do need. I have one GSP in a 30 gal tank. He...

Re: Useful Info RE API test kits
I received the card a few weeks ago, and they also included the instruction booklet. For now since I'm only at 1.010 sg, I'm checking both cards when I test the water. So far there isn't a lot of difference.

Useful Info RE API test kits
Recently I emailed API because I wanted to know at what sg I should be switching from their Freshwater Master Test Kit to their Saltwater kit. I have a young GSP and I'm increasing the salt level as he grows bigger. They told me that the two kits are IDENTICAL. The only difference is the color chart...
