Re: Murder beans!
Thanks for the heads up. It's always a concern whenever adding new fish to an established setup. Honestly, it's just a thought that may never happen. If it does, I'm hoping the removal of several fish and introduction of several new ones will help, along with a little re-scaping.

Re: Murder beans!
I think they might actually do better when they're "crowded" just a little bit. Kinda like some African cichlids. There's a little chasing going on, but nobody takes the brunt of it. I'm actually thinking about getting a few more to grow out in quarantine for a few months and adding any fe...

Re: Murder beans!
They sit still when they are begging for food! Or more accurately, they hover in place! The males have a more muted pattern overall with a dorsal and ventral stripe. The females seem to retain the bolder juvenile pattern with a peppering of black speckles in the yellow areas. So far the males have b...

Re: Murder beans!
They are in a heavily scaped and planted 35g hex. At this point, they've started showing sexual dimorphism and of the nine I appear to have...6 males and 3 females. So far it seems to be working out, though. There's some chasing going on, but everyone is still fat and healthy and eating well. There'...

Re: DP Snail Population?
They'll eat their fill. Then they'll kill the rest. This is how the murder bean do. It's best to have a separate tank for raising snails.

Murder beans!
Thought I'd give an update on my dwarf puffers. 2 1/2 weeks ago I received 10 tiny, emaciated dwarf puffers. They went straight into quarantine for deworming. One didn't make it to the third day. I'm happy to say that the other 9 are fat, sassy, and growing like weeds! If not for deworming them, I d...

Re: Planning for New Tank!
Fish don't see their reflection. https://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/library/puffer-care/alone-but-not-lonely-the-importance-of-keeping-puffers-solo/ Certainly that's not true for all fish, hence the mirrors used with for example apisto's or beta's to make them flare up for pictures. I've done tha...

Re: I finally got my dwarf puffers!
Update: Unfortunately one pea has passed. There were two that were extremely tiny, skinny, and lethargic on arrival and one of those two did not make it through the second round of deworming.😟The other one is still not as active as the other 8, but I'm holding out hope, as he seems to have perked up ...

Re: I finally got my dwarf puffers!
A shot of the whole tank. A rare gem from Craigslist. O'Dell tank with custom oak stand, canopy, and built in w/d filter for $50! All the driftwood and river stones were locally collected. After adding the cost of substrate, an Eheim pump, and Jaeger heater, I'm in it for another $115. Then I bought ...

I finally got my dwarf puffers!
I ordered 10 dps last week from my lfs and they just came in yesterday! Of course they were tiny and very skinny. They are currently in quarantine being dewormed and feasting on snails and live blackworms, along with other microfauna living in the algae and susswassertang. Currently, there's no real...

Update on my Suvatti puffer
He's almost doubled in size from about 2.5" to a little over 4". And he must be good and comfy because he hardly moves anymore, at least when the lights are on. At night is a different story. He spends most of the daylight burrowed into his favorite spot unless he's hungry. If I walk in af...

Re: Abei's puffer tank mates
Long term Abei keeper, here. My Abei isn't the most aggressive puffer I've ever seen; he's the most aggressive fish I've ever seen. Period. He kills anything he can catch whether he's hungry or not. The only "tankmates" he has are feeder livebearers he hasn't caught yet. Make sure cords ar...
