A book I have on fish cognition says this is something some fish species do when faced with some unfamiliar thing.

If the inspector fish survives the inspection it gains status with its shoal mates which can help with mating status etc.

There's confusion caused by the names used. The diodons are collectively referred to as the Porcupine fish family. In the NE Atlantic these are Diodon Hystrix, Diodon Holocantus, and assorted Burrfish. The big, 2 foot one is Diodon Hystrix. It is also the one the scientists have officially named THE...

i agree with eieio's comment about what's really at stake. It's interesting that the media (at least the one's I've seen) are ignoring this as a major cause of the "leave" vote anf focusing on more right oriented issues like limiting immigration Heaven forbid that they admit that the ECC politicians...
