Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
I've stopped with the ph for just 5 days now. Nitrates and nitrites have been consistently 0. As far as a water change, friend recommended using distilled water for the first change before fish. Yes? No?

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
I stopped adding ammonia once I saw that it was holding at .2 ppm.Pufferpunk wrote:Are you adding ammonia daily to 5ppm? What's your nitrate? What's the pH of your tap water?
My tap water has a ph of 7.8 as well so I guess that answers that question.

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
Having two issues at this point: ph seems to be holding at 7.8 ammonia is BARELY registering in the test (using API Master Test Kit; ammonia test coming up a very light shade of green...had to stare at it for some time to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me) but it has been at this level ...

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
From what I've seen posted online more than one puffer is just trouble waiting to happen. It's why I keep one! I have one in 50L, approx. 13 US Gal. It's very active, if anything I'd prefer to go with a bigger footprint so that there was more to explore. I have been following your post in this foru...

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
I had been trying to find a "rule of thumb" so to speak.bertie 83 wrote:Allow 5g per puffer and you won't go far wrong
Had seen:
- 10g for first, 5g for each after
- 5g for first, 2.5g for each after
- 5g for each

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
Thank you all for the information. My local hardware store was able to supply ammonia cheap. I tested applying ammonia to one gallon of water, did the proportional math and then added to the tank. Now the patience and testing. Excited for the day when I can add my new buddies! Before I get to that p...

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
Seems I was either misinformed or perhaps just missed something entirely when I was talking to the associate in the store. After reading Pufferpunk's post about starving the bacteria and then reading the article, I called the store and asked about a source of ammonia. Being dissatisfied with the per...

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
So as far as hiding places are concerned, any suggestions for that? Has anyone seen any success with cichlid stones in a DP tank?

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
Driftwood is being completely uncooperative for the time being lol. It has yet to lose any of its buoyancy. As soon as I can get it in the tank I'll be sure to update with pictures. As far as the number of fish...based on the different numbers I've found regarding fish per gallon, I had decided that...

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
I am using Microbe-Lift Special Blend to establish the bacteria in my tank. I don't have an existing filter running so I'm a little behind the eight ball in that regard. I am well aware that the process can take over a month but am prepared to be patient. As I've mentioned before, I take great pride...

Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
28 gallon tank that I just started cycling. Figure it'll be at least 2 weeks before I'll have any fish but this is a crucial time in my estimation because its the first time I'm setting up a DP tank. Please critique/scold me for whatever necessary, in the end I just want this to be a great habitat f...

Hello!
Just immersing myself into the world of puffers for the first time. I am not an overly experienced aquarium owner but I figured I could offset that with dedication. I just happened upon puffers while doing research to decide what fish I wanted to be the proud owner of and dwarf puffers caught my eye...
