Hairy Puffer bored?

I have had my hairy for several months. He is doing great, eats like a pig, interacts with us and is VERY active all day long. However, he surfs up and down the glass a lot, mostly the front corner! I am worried he is "bored". He shares the 40 breeder tank with a humpback puffer with a mes...

Here is a set of calculators I used.

FYI, watch your ammonia level with Instant Ocean. Don't know if I got a bad batch, but my levels shot UP after water changes.

Re: New forum user & new puffer fish

I have a humpback, since last November. Yep, she hides ALL day in her cave. Eats about every 3 days. Doesn't even want to come out very far for food. Very shy. I think she cruises a bit at night though.

Re: Start brackish

I went up almost 0.002 each week as max recommended, but I think it was too quick for the bacteria to adjust. Be more patient than I was. Plus you might want to check your batch of Instant Ocean salt. Lots of people love it, but some batches have problems as mentioned on all kinds of reef forums. Mi...

Re: Feeding Portions

I generally feed him well every 2 days (he's about 3"). I think he would eat everyday if I let him, acts like he is starving. He is certainly voracious!

Re: Left cichlids for puffers

I have a question: It seems that hairy puffers are much more active than dragon puffers, so why is the tank size for the dragon so much bigger than for the hairy?

Re: Left cichlids for puffers

They will share a 40B for a while. I have a 75 if needed. I'll keep that video in mind. The dragon puffer hardly moves out of his log. Each might not even know the other fish exists...The hairy is aggressive though!

He'll split the tank (divided) with a T. palembangensis.

Ha, I have caught my hairy puffer also doing this several times! I'm guessing I'll never be able to get it on video....

Slightly better pic of the hairy puffer. He has been eating like a pig.

Re: Left cichlids for puffers

Thanks! Already the hairy puffer is more outgoing. My local club supplier delivered him in an orange 5 gal bucket with lid because he said he had bitten through 5 bags...I'm glad he has lots of "hair".
