Re: Tetraodon baileyi - Hairy Puffer
I don't feed live food simply because I can't get hold of live shrimp, and I would never use 'feeder fish'. He has plenty of snails in the tank but I've never seen any evidence of him eating them, I think he thinks they're for decoration!

Re: such a happy puff
My hairy puffer likes being stroked, sometimes he swims up and rubs his head on my hand like a dog when I'm cleaning him out, but I'm always a bit wary as he could do some serious damage if he wanted to!

Re: Tetraodon baileyi - Hairy Puffer
Mine loves mussels (only once a week because of the thiaminase content), prawns and lancefish. No matter what I do though he will not touch cockles!

Re: Left cichlids for puffers
You may find the hairy becomes less active with time, mine was always on the go for the first month or two, to the point I was wondering why they're classified as lurkers, but now is much more sedate, just getting excited around feeding time!

Re: Hairy puffer squeaking?!
Update - I still haven't managed to video him squeaking, but he's now started squirting water at me if I don't feed him quickly enough after opening the tank hood!

Re: Hairy puffer squeaking?!
It does sound a bit like nails on a blackboard! I'll try and get a video but he doesn't do it very often so could be tricky.

Hairy puffer squeaking?!
My hairy puffer (Dr Von Winklestein - Winkie for short!) has twice now made a strange squeaking noise while extending his mouth, both times when excited to see me in the morning. Has anyone else seen/heard this from their puffers?
