Re: Puffer Hybrid? Is the possible?

part of the T. pustulatus considered puffer population (up to the entire population) are a regional variant of T. lineatus with transitions to the standard forms. I tend to agree with this thinking. I think it's highly probable (and silly) that people are buying what is likely just a T. lineatus wi...

Re: Shipping a puffer from MI to Chicago.

Thanks for all the replies and offers to adopt! I'd love to have any one of you take him, but shipping is inherently complicated/risky, and I'd be heartbroken if anything happened to him, especially like that; all by himself in a cold box far from home :( Willing to do it, but would prefer a local o...

Shipping a puffer from MI to Chicago.

Hello, I'm moving to Hawaii in a few weeks and I can't take my Figure 8 with me; so I've had to put him up for adoption in the classifieds section. Luckily, I found someone willing who lives in Chicago, which is fairly close to me (~5-6 hour drive). My question is, could I safely ship him by mail to...

Re: Elvis' personality

I have a picture saved on my other computer of Elvis sulking after being bitten or stung? by something.
The look on his face was hilarious, lol

Re: Just lost a puffer :(

Looks like my little guy has recovered! :)
He started acting normal yesterday and ate a few pieces of krill.
Today he's buzzing around like his normal self, begging for food and bugging Ms. Goby.
I'm pumped!

Re: Just lost a puffer :(

Thanks for your comments. The remaining puffer has started to behave just like the deceased puffer did about a day before he died; bobbing at an angle with his mouth at the surface, and swimming haphazardly, bumping into things. I'm not sure he can see very well; he doesn't respond to me hardly at a...

Just lost a puffer :(

Last week, I fed the fish as usual; the puffers (figure 8's) ate krill, and I dropped in a "variety wafer" for the knight goby who is too shy to come to the surface for food. About two days later, I woke up to a cloudy tank. After searching I found that the goby had simply moved her wafer ...

Here is some (very reputable) info regarding rainbowfish:

And brackish aquaria in general, including many fishes:

Re: Driftwood in brackish tank? I purchased some, pics inside!

I absolutely agree with what your LFS guy said.
There is likely a lot of wood in the estuaries most brackish fish come from.
I personally wouldn't worry about the tannins; I have actually wanted to put driftwood in my tank purely for the "tannins" look.

Re: Cloudy water, archer fish died, puffers not looking great

I know it's not as dramatic as Annabelle's saga, but after about a week, both the puffers ate quite a bit today! Fat little tummies full of bloodworms. They seem to be feeling a lot better, back to their normal selves for the most part. This is the second day I've been treating the tank with Melafix...

Re: Cloudy water, archer fish died, puffers not looking great

Well, I think it's ammonia poisoning. The decaying shrimp must have caused an ammonia spike, which caused the cloudy water, and during the several days of high ammonia levels the fish must have gotten ammonia poisoning. They are still lethargic and hanging around the surface, even the goby, which is...
