Re: Dwarf Puffer tank

That is one great-looking environment for your fish! I gave up on submersible plants, so your success is so pleasing cos I have absolutely NO luck with them. So when you do WC, you obv don't vac the substrate then, right? I wonder if there is not enough poo, cos my weekly WCs consist of pulling ever...

Re: Experienced fish-keeper worst nightmare.

No, TOPuffer, I love ur ramble. Too often we see folks take on a fish w/o the means or resources to provide adequate care, housing, etc for them, because of ego. I can go on and on, to add to your rant too! But yes, thankfully all ended well. Scpion, that is rough to wake to up to! Were the occupant...

Re: My new mbu

Looking @ Hank the Mbu's oldd 340 gal tank, 250 gal wld not do justice for an intelligent fish that's going to be over 2 ft long. When do you plan to upgrade his tank? As PP said, he'll very quickly outgrow that tank so hopefully your upgrade is on its way.

Re: Experienced fish-keeper worst nightmare.

Oh, not to mention liquid ferts for plants, and medication too! *lol* Oh geebus. So much for keeping it budget-friendly. It breaks my heart now, seeing how majority of people don't do it right by the fish, thereby incurring high mortality rates... cos, oh, it was just a coupla bucks. :( That makes m...

Experienced fish-keeper worst nightmare.

My tank sprang a slow leak on Wed night. O_o Got to Petco 8 mins before closing, drove there like a hellion on wheels! Transferred gravel, decor and plants to new tank, after putting the fish in 2 holding containers. My poor Otos were so stressed, but they were hard to net! Did a 50% WC during the t...

Re: Setting up a tank for DPs?

No more than 3 DPs. The 3 gallon rule is outdated, and based on DPs' personality, they do best with lots of room. When you keep them, you'll finally understand why the 3 gallon rule wld be unfair to the little guys. More (as in numbers) is not better for these fish. I wld suggest 10 gal for 1st puff...

Totally jelly! Looks like a DP paradise!

I managed to kill a really healthy thick bunch of water wisteria, so I'm done w/ live plants. At least my marimo balls are alive.

Re: Tank mates for Dwarf Puffers :)

Bumblebee gobies wouldn't work with DPs, as the gobies are brackish and the DPs are freshwater. Agreed! Thanks for posting this! So bad bad info out there! Ugh. Always do your research, no matter how knowledgeable a LFS seems to be. Use the search function on this forum, you'll find info about tank...

Re: Dwarf puffer help

I noticed you mentioned it couldn't be ammonia burn, etc. Is there a reason you have a worry that there is ammonia present in the tank? Is your tank cycled? Do you test your water parameters w/ a liquid test kit? Puffer fish are also extremely sensitive to ammonia. Also, what kind of filter are you ...

Re: Do your puffers let you pet them?

Lol @ Hillehaus. What happens when it's time for tank maintenance? I haven't tried petting my DP, altho she eats out of my finger. I did have a betta as a child, and he was very tactile. I cld stroke him all the way down to his tail, and during weekly tank cleaning, all I had to do was cup my palm, ...

Re: Has anyone tried feeding their puffers Freeze Dried snai

Hm. Looks like something I see @ the Asian grocer.

Well, thanks for the update. I was thinking of getting some even tho I have a healthy breeding tank of Ramshorn. I figure it wld be a good thing to have on hand for easy feeding for a pet sitter if we go out of town for extended period.
