Re: New to DP's (not to tanks) advice
I would suggest amano shrimp as a cleanup crew, but be aware that when they molt the puffers might eat them. I would not suggest plecos or corys if you like your fish to have eyeballs. You could add a ton of trumpet snails, they breed quickly, puffers love to eat them and they are good for live plant...

also cherry shrimp will be eaten. If you want shrimp go with amano instead but you're still taking a chance they will get eaten when they molt.

Re: Step One for Dwarf Puffer Setup (w/ picture)
So as far as hiding places are concerned, any suggestions for that? Has anyone seen any success with cichlid stones in a DP tank? I don't know if they would really use cichlid stones, they aren't really into caves. Once the driftwood is in (if its giving you a hard time you can try weighing it down...

Looks good! I'd like to see another pic with the driftwood on there. How many DP's are you planning on?

Re: Dwarf Puffers Attacked and Injured Other DP
It is possible she was bullied to death, or its possible she was already failing and the other puffers were picking at her because she was already not well. I would not suggest any major changes to rescaping the tank once the other puffers have established their territories. When I rescaped my puffe...

Re: Where good snails go to die
Nice puffer, where did you get him? I lucked out really - he was owned by an employee at my lfs who had 2. He wanted a male and female but they both seemed to be females so he sold this one to me. Of course he really turned out to be a male. I offered him back to the lfs guy because I felt bad but ...

Schmendrick has been helping me with my recent surge in mystery snails. I had over 70 hatch between 2 clutches so he has been on an almost all snail diet for a few weeks. He doesn't seem to mind but I did do bloodworms a few times just to change it up a bit

Re: My 3 dwarf pea puffers living peacefully in a community
I'm sorry I have to agree. Lots of people add DPs to community tanks and say "see I told you they are fine" but 3-6 months later its a different story. Missing eyes, tattered fins - yeah they may not kill your other fish outright but they will pick away a little at a time until stress kill...

Re: dp breeding set up
oh, your level of care isn't an issue and 12 of them is not overcrowding in a biological sense, I was more concerned about aggression? But then again I've never bred DPs (just rainbows and corys) so what do I know lol.

Re: dp breeding set up
Am I reading correctly that you have 12 dp's in a 30 gallon? That seems too many.

Re: DP tankmates
Ottos *may* be ok. I had 6 ottos in with 3 dp's in a 20 gallon but they didn't last very long. I honestly don't know if it was because of the DP's or because ottos have some weird bacteria issue with digestion that can sometimes cause issues. Amano shrimp did very well with my DP's (but not with my ...

Absolutely not a DP. I hope you can find someone to give him a proper home. At least he's small now so you have some time!

Re: My 3 dwarf pea puffers living peacefully in a community
I have to agree with Bertie. I think you're taking a big chance by putting a predator fish in with community fish and expecting it will stay peaceful. They may be fine for a while but don't expect it to last forever.
