Back after a very long hiatus
Hi all! You probably don't remember me, but I was active on here maybe 5 years ago. I'm finally able to keep fish again, so I'm back to refresh my memory and see what's new. Thanks for keeping the site active, friendly, and informative! I've been steering as many people as I can over here when they ...

Double-check my plan?
Hi all, I was on this forum a few years ago, when I had a couple different species of puffer, but I had to find new homes for my fish due to unemployment after graduation and consequently living in my parents' spare bedroom. Now I'm finally in a living situation where I can keep fish again. I'm plan...

Re: ZOMGGSP!
Cool! Thanks for all the responses. I'm kind of confused about when to acclimate to SW now, though. The pufferpedia says no SW until they're 4 inches, but some of you are saying they can be acclimated right away as babies. Has anyone successfully acclimated a baby GSP, and kept it to adulthood?

Re: ZOMGGSP!
Thanks! I'm not particularly fond of sand substrate, since I like to give everything a good vacuuming, and with no MTS in SW 'd have to stir the stuff. Bleh. Is regular ol' aquarium gravel OK? The LFS I usually go to has baby GSPs in FW and an adult or two in SW, so I could potentially start the tan...

ZOMGGSP!
I just got a free 30-gallon tank, which means it's GSP TIME! I'm getting the tank set up at the moment and would appreciate advice and critiques. I'm going to wash, bleach, dry, and rinse the tank in the next couple of days, and have purchased a submersible heater and an AC 70 filter. A hygrometer (...

Re: Please help--Poofer is sick
She's so tiny I don't know if that's possible. Her mouth is maybe 1.5 mm wide.
I have not seen her today. I'm hoping she's just hiding. I want to find her and make sure she's still with us, but it stresses her out so much when I move her furniture around.

Re: Please help--Poofer is sick
I dosed the tank with Flubenol.
Poofer started to swim aimlessly, so I tried putting food in front of her, but she bumped passed it like she didn't recognise it. She no longer cues in on her feeding cup or chopsticks. It's as if she is blind.

Re: Please help--Poofer is sick
I can't get her to eat. When she was eating, she would eat until her belly was round, and then she would "hollow out" again by the next day. Should I hit the tank with Flubenol again? What should I do? Flamesofifreet: Poofer was doing great up until now as a singleton in a 10. The PufferPe...

Re: Betta trouble
Calico passed away Friday. I realize that this is not a chat room and that instant answers aren't going to happen, but it's been three days now and not one person even posted to say "I'm stumped." You've all been incredibly helpful in the past. Was Calico's problem something unusual that n...

Betta trouble
As some of you may recall, I got a new betta (Calico) about two months ago. A few weeks ago he started having what looked like Swim Bladder Disease. He is stuck at the surface of the water and is generally listless. I let him fast for a week twice, but this did not help. I tried the pea trick and wa...

Re: Still skinny...
Well, she ate a little bit of mussel today, but was much more interested in the mysis shrimp. The frozen mussel I have is honestly pretty revolting. I don't blame her for not being too thrilled about it--It's sort of like rubbery tan snot to be honest. She also got a snail. I'll be feeding her sever...

Re: Still skinny...
I'm not soaking in vitamins. I honestly have not been able to find Kent Zoe or anything like that locally. Maybe an order from the Drs is in order here. Will the frozen stuff absorb any vitamins, or do I need to use freeze-dried? I just had a thought: I'm going to try and see if she'll eat bloodworm...

As some of you may remember, I've treated my irrubesco, Poofer, twice now for IPs. The first time I administered Jungle Parasite Clear orally in soaked food, as per instrctions given to me on this site .The second time, I dosed her tank weekly for 5 weeks with Flubenol at the dosage recommended here...

Re: 10 Gallon Tank
Carinotetraodon irrubesco can do great in a 10-gallon with no tankmates. My avatar girl, Poofer, lives in a 10 with lots of plastic plants to hide in and sleep on.
