Re: What's your puffer's name?
My F8 is named after the french cartoon character Samsam. I think there is a strong resemblance in the eyes. :P Also, the cartoon character is impulsive but still contemplative, which reminds me of my puff. Sometimes I sing the theme song while I work on her tank. ^.^ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Re: Feeding routine
When I first got my puffer I fed every other day but I noticed that she wasn't doing so well, her stomach would sink in and her colors would dull without a feeding every day. When I started feeding daily her colors brightened and she became much more active. I don't know if my puffer has an especial...

Re: How Long Before Transitioning F8 to Brackish?
I know I'm late to the party but in case someone else is researching, I'd like to add my experience: My puffer's tank was set up at 1.003. When I got my F8, I drip acclimated to 1.003 into a small bucket. During my initial research I discovered that some puffer species like F8s in the wild often swi...

Has anyone ever seen a F8 puff?
Just curious. People ask me all the time if my F8 has ever puffed and I can't say she ever has! I've searched for pictures of F8s puffing and I haven't found any.

Re: Brackish Water Plants
I just put some val in my BW tank from my FW tank. I did a very crude acclimation and then planted them. It's only 1.003. Also, they are infested with pond snails! Yummy yum yum! Hopefully the salinity won't kill the snail eggs.

Re: Thoughts on this layout?
I have java ferns in my 1.005 tank. Do they thrive? No. Do they survive? Yes. I also have real wood in my tank. I've accepted that I'll have to replace it every year. But it's worth it. I want my tank to look natural. Also the moss balls I have are doing okay and even growing.

Re: Excited Puffer???
Can we get a video. I can try to do a video, it may take some time though cause he stops shivering when he sees my phone, then darts away while giving me a grouchy/repulsed look. -.- Mine does that. I think once she realizes that it's not food, she's saying: "WHY U NO GIB NOMZ?" *goes int...

Re: New Figure Eight
I have a F8 and use "she/her" when talking about her.
My F8 loves pest snails and freeze dried krill. Those are her favorites. She makes crunching noises when she eats that are cute. =D

Have you ever seen a F8 puff?
I'm wondering what it'd look like. I'm having problems seeing it. My F8 gets freaked out by sudden movements, other common occurrences and she's never puffed. (I know it upsets her because she jumps. I have a sturdy lid and try my best to move slowly around her tank.)

Re: Lethargic Dwarf Puffer
How's your little puffer girl? I hope she's doing better. Sadly, no. She is now not responsive to ANYTHING. I only know she is alive because her pectoral fins are fluttering slightly and her chest is moving. She's on her side. I think she's just waiting for her time to come now. :( When I got her s...

Re: Orange Saddleback Fucca/Puffer
The thing about puffers is due to the areas they live in, they can survive in a wide range of salinities. Survive- not thrive. These are extreme conditions that puffers can live in for a period of time but not forever. Kind of like how I can survive in 115F but after a few hours, I get heat stroke b...

Re: How do you introduce puffers to the tank?
I use a Drs. Foster & Smith Acclimation Kit. I pour the fish and water into a bowl and do the acclimation in the bowl. When the bowl gets full, I gently pour out some water. Eventually, the bowl will be full of mostly tank water if you do this enough. Once you are satisfied you have all the pets...
