Re: Need advice on crustaceans

True, I've tried that.

The voracious little s***s go through them so quickly.

Hell, I pinched a cricket by its leg over the water and Larry jumped up and grabbed the poor b*****d by his head and dragged him down. It was like Deep Blue Sea all up in there.

Re: Clean up/cleaning tank mate

What can be done about the algae?

Dealing with the same problem for two baby GSPs.

Need advice on crustaceans

I've got two GSPs that are almost 2". I want to buy feeder crabs and crayfish for them, but I need them to be small, and I can't for the life of me find any place that sells the right kind of crustaceans for them. Could anyone please tell me what are some good crab and crayfish species that are...

Lost a GSP

Hi all. I bought 3 baby GSP for a 55-gallon tank. The smallest one, which hadn't been eating, died today. I'm upset, because I had 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and at most <3 nitrate. It seems always after a water change some of my fish die, which makes me dread doing water changes. One thing I did, which ...

Re: Green Spotted Puffers

I'll relocate the fish to a new tank.

Saving up for a 150-gallon tank once they go full marine.

Dropping crickets in for them and they're like little puppies with beaks that tear them all the hell apart. :D

I can't get enough of these adorable fish! Their personalities are wonderful. :)

Green Spotted Puffers

Hello all. Decided to get back into owning puffers since my first GSP died due to ignorance over cycling [nitrite spike]. Having a 55-gallon freshwater tank for well over a month now, I bought three little GSPs. They're adorable, and I've been learning a lot over the months. Moe, Larry, and Curly ar...

Re: New GSP Owner!

My puffer didn't make it through the night, so I'm feeling depressed.

I don't think I was ready to adopt him, There's so much involved that you have to research first.

I'll start over with saltwater, and before buying any fish make sure the tank's cycled for at least a month.

Re: New GSP Owner!

Just bought some ramshorn snails online. Not sure how pricing goes, but it was 12 snails for $9.95, with $11.95 shipping.

Ouch.

Petco didn't carry them. Bet I could find a better deal elsewhere. What do you think, PP?

Re: New GSP Owner!

I do have a Jungle Safe Start bottle, which dechlorinates and conditions the water, as well as adding a slime coat. I also have a sample packet of Tetra SafeStart, which does the same thing, but I'm almost out of. Did a 75% WC and the ammonia is still at 0.25 ppm. Slightly more yellow, towards '0', ...

Re: New GSP Owner!

Do you think Petco or Wal-Mart would have Prime?

I'll need 30 drops for 30 gallons.

Tomorrow I'll call and if they have it for freshwater I'll buy and use it.

For now I just did a 75% WC and will be checking the ammonia yet again. Then repeat tomorrow.

Re: New GSP Owner!

Continue doing as many WC as needed to keep ammonia/nitrite at 0. ONLY add Prime to the water. I don't have Prime. What I'm worried about is that if I do a water change, how do I replace the starter stuff/dechlorinate the water without adding too much or too little? At least the salt can be measure...

Re: Feeding a Marine Green Spotted Puffer (Breeding Food)

Just crushed up a pond snail and three MTS with a forceps and plopped them in. So far he hasn't gone for them. Maybe he's not hungry yet. His belly is slightly bulged, so he'll get hungry soon enough. Need to see him actually show more hunger for snails. I know what he did to that apple snail. Shoul...

Re: Feeding a Marine Green Spotted Puffer (Breeding Food)

Reading through the article you gave me on snail breeding, I can tell it's a darned good one. Finally, I know now that the MTS (Malaysian Trumpet Snail?) is an invasive pest snail that is too hard for my GSP to eat. Unfortunately, I have over 40 of them now. Maybe I should buy a couple assassin snai...

Re: My GSP is behaving strangely

I didn't know, and I haven't found much info posted about it.

There should be a compendium on everything GSP-related. One that's easily found on Google search.
