Re: Keeping snails with a puffer
You'd probably struggle to get anything like a colony to survive long enough to breed, despite being prolific breeders. I thought of the idea myself but my F8 puffers are constantly on the hunt and even if I put 100+ snails in there they would annihilate them all within 24-48hrs I reckon giving them...

Re: Spiny Box Puffer covered in white spots
Can't be much of a local expert if he / she said all those fish would be fine in a tank of that size

Re: Thoughts on this layout?
Arny - That's a bit of a sweeping statement. I have a brackish tank which I keep at between 1.003sg - 1.005sg and it contains redmoor root which isn't rotting and java fern which is positively thriving. Java fern can adapt to brackish water quite well, I dose fertiliser & liquid Co2 every day an...

Re: F8 puffer and tank mates
Yes although I didn't realise how lucky at the time! Went to my LFS to check out their Orange Chromides (they are well known for having some unusual / rare speciments of all sorts) however the assistant recommended the Green's as he felt the Orange's may be a little to placid to live with the F8's, ...

Re: F8 puffer and tank mates
I need to upgrade my lighting too - have old T8's in there and I'm hoping to upgrade to LED over Xmas time which should help bring out the colour in the Chromide - love the stripes on them, very unusual

Re: F8 puffer and tank mates
Apologies for the delay in replying. Here are some pics attached, building up the wood & dragon stone over time but it's getting there - despite the tank being brackish (SG of 1.003) I am actually having some success with growing Java Fern albeit very slow growth, I have to add fertiliser & ...

Re: F8 puffer and tank mates
I am currently keeping a pair of Green Chromides for the past few months with a pair of F8 puffers in a 225l brackish tank and have had no issues so far - they have the occasional "scuffle" when either of them get too close to each other (no physical contact, just the occasional snapping a...

Re: Sand
I went for 1mm at a depth of 1". Yes it compacts down fine, you need to rinse it through a lot though otherwise it'll cloud your water - I also believe it gradually dissolves over time (albeit very slowly) so you'll need to add more over time. I'm happy with it, it's a nice attractive substrate.

Re: Sand
Why didn't they just sell you Aragonite sand?!? Strange... That looks more like crushed coral to me which you can use to raise & buffer ph. I bought Aragonite sand for my Figure 8 tank, Classica were the brand and I got off eBay - I would return this and order some online, it's not that expensiv...

Re: Unusual bioload? Or too early to tell?
Hope things work out for you, my tank is all cycled now and I'm picking up my 3x F8's today, can't wait! Just a thought, does your F8 have plenty of hiding places / cover / areas to feel safe and not exposed such as dense planting / caves? It's probably just a case of him needing to settle in to his...

Re: Figure 8 Setup - order of adding tankmates?
Cheers, I am being as patient as I can but I quite enjoy the science bit and it gives me a chance to finalise decor etc Will keep you posted! P.S Sending back the 2nd heater I have bought, 1st one was broken and now the 2nd (a Fluval E300) won't work unless I mount it horizontally below the filter o...

Re: Figure 8 Setup - order of adding tankmates?
Thanks, that's good advice. I tried to find this out on the web / via the forum but there didn't seem to be anything related to the order in which to add tankmates, plenty on compatibility though of course. Cheers, ok, so BBG's first then. Tank still cycling but Nitrite showing up now so things are ...

Figure 8 Setup - order of adding tankmates?
Hi, I posted this question originally on a previous post of mine but think it may have got lost in the system somewhere! I am still in the process of cycling my 225l tank ready to turn brackish and my setup will include:- 3x F8's 4-6 Bumblebee Gobies 2 Orange Chromides Ideally I'd like to add the F8...
