Re: Dwarf Puffer Help
Sticking tightly together may be a sign of stress, but would also be normal for the first couple of days when adjusting to new conditions. One missing is not a good sign, neither is the change in behaviour you mention, and lack of appetite. I suspect water quality issues. It takes more than a couple...

Re: Shrimp with my Dwarf puffers??
I would recommend amanos. My DPs have lived with the same 4 amanos for nearly three years now, no problem. Cherry shrimp, on the other hand - not a success... I tried, but the cherrys were all gobbled up VERY fast. The puffers appreciated the wild hunt, though...

The enigma of "optimal" F8 salinity level...
What are your views on the lack of concensus about salinity levels for F8 puffers? I'm quite intrigued by this, and would be happy to hear about your views and the reasoning behind it. A few websites (like Seriouslyfish) recommend freshwater. We all "know" freshwater is a common misconcept...

Re: Tetraodon Schoutedeni!? NEED ID PLEASE
Looks like a GSP to me, but then I'm not an expert at all, so don't take my word for it. I'm saying this because the one in the photos seems to have a bright patch on the head (?) and the tail is shorter, has some dark stripes, and is not yellow. I believe you se a true schoutedeni in this video: ht...

Re: Female DP bullying another 2 DPs
It's not always their sex that determines the degree of aggression. My male DP has never shown any signs of aggression, he is the sweetest little thing. And yes, he is defenitely a male (eye wrinkles, brown line on the yellow belly)! My females range from very mild mannered to quite aggressive. The ...

Re: Tetraodon Sabahensis Overview/Article.
Old thread/sticky, so I'd guess more is known about this species today? Or not? Does anyone happen to know where exactly D. sabahensis are found, more specifically than "South-East Asia" or "Indonesia"? I don't own this species, I've just taken an interest in the origin and distr...

Re: F8 tank: Eheim filter dimensions, and 1 or 2 filters?
Thanks for your replies - I will check out the eccos too. Currently thinking that one each of the Eheim prof 4+ 250 and 350 would be sufficient, and also better than one single filter when thinking long term (in case I won't need that strong filtration later on, while "needing" more "...

Re: SAP teeth in the wild?
Interesting question. Why would nature equip them with such extremely fast growing teeth? There might be something about their diet, or something about their environment, or both. Diet: The website www.seriouslyfish.com/species/colomesus-asellus/ states the following: "There is some evidence to...

Re: New dwarf puffers! Question about multiple males.
I think this depends on two main factors: each individual puffer's personality, and the aquarium setup. Plenty of space, dense plant cover and lots of hiding places increase the probability of peaceful coexistence. I've also heard that Dps are less aggressive when kept in groups. They are more socia...

F8 tank: Eheim filter dimensions, and 1 or 2 filters?
Hi! I'm slowly planning my new F8 tank (2-3 F8s with BBGs and possibly try some other tank mates), to be set up early next year. I will by a custom made tank of 200 litres +/-, measuring something like L 110-130 cm, B 40-50 cm, H max 40 cm. I really like my Eheim filters, and consider the Eheim prof...

Re: Figure 8 puffers
Yes, I'll go for the "dry" stuff. How about particle size - is it true that "sugar sized" particles will be blown all around the tank? I've seen that mentioned somewhere.

Re: Figure 8 puffers
I've decided to start an F8+BBG tank next year, and since last I wrote here, I've decided to go a little bigger - up to 200 litres. And I'd really like to try to have more than one F8. Now I'm checking out aragonite substrates, finding various types by e.g. CaribSea, Nature's Ocean, Red Sea and SeaC...

General hardness and aragonite substrate
I'm considering aragonite as substrate in one of my tanks. It will buffer pH to 8'ish, but what about GH - how much will it increase? My tap water is soft, with GH 3 dH (and pH 7.1, KH 3 dH). I should test some in a bucket, but it is very expensive to buy aragonite, so I'd like to have some idea abo...
