Re: What does ich look like when its dropping off?
Sounds like a lot of salt. Suggested amount is 1 tbsp/10g. Where is this "stuff" trailing from--his anus? Hi, I followed the guide on here of 1 teaspoon per 1 gallon and then increased it to 1.5. It's like it's flaking off him just all over his body and he's rubbing on everything still. I...

suggested water dechlorinators for puffers
Hi all,
I was just wondering if there are better dechlorinators than others for puffers?
I've seen them mention slime coat....is this of benefit to a puffer?
What about all the other stuff they claim?

What does ich look like when its dropping off?
As per my other post, my poor amazon puffer has ich. :( He is now very lethargic (resting and hiding in the rock) and not eating but it looks like he's got stuff trailing from him. Is this the ich "dropping off" or its not that that salt is too strong and it's affecting his skin is it?! Ma...

It's just getting worse and it's been a week now
I thought the cycle should of been completed now but he is still covered in the spots and they are even worse!
Should I start treating with medicine now?

Re: ich?? help with treatment for my amazon puffer
I used the cheap sainsburys salt in the end. If the temp is affecting him keep it slightly lower and dose for longer, rtrs method is spot on for temp and life cycles etc. but if you have to tweak it to keep your wet pet happy then do so. Aquarium salt will not help you in this case, or really any c...

Re: ich?? help with treatment for my amazon puffer
Aquarium salt is not what you want, it will do nothing and has no use. Use table salt instead Hi there, I've read so much for and against table salt and aquarium salt. I have 2 different types of salt but they have the same things in them : salt, anti caking agent, sodium hexacyanoferrate II I take...

Re: ich?? help with treatment for my amazon puffer
How much salt is that/10 gal? Sorry, IDK metric. The instructions in the aquarium salt say half teaspoon per 4 L which is one gallon. But everything I've read says at least one teaspoon per one gallon. On the 3rd day now and still got all the white spots. Temp is back up to 28 and ill see how he go...

Re: ich?? help with treatment for my amazon puffer
I've added most of the salt and put the temp up one more degree to 28 degrees but about half an hour later I seen him at the bottom of the tank breathing heavy!!! I've turned it back down to 27 but he still seems to be struggling. He does move when disturbed and seems interest in potential food. He'...

I can't tell as my puffer is so small!
Thank you!

difference between velvet and ich
Hi everyone,
I've been doing a hell of a lot of research today as I think my puffer has ich, then I realised that ich sounds the same as velvet!!!
How are you suppose to tell the difference between the 2?
I've looked but can't seem to find any solid difference.
Hope someone can help!
Zoe.

Re: ich?? help with treatment for my amazon puffer
It's almost a given that this species will either wind up with ich or velvet, when moved to a new environment. Raise the temp to 86, add 1 tbsp salt/10g (IDK liters) & do 80% WC, cleaning substrate well, every other day, for 3 weeks after visible cysts art gone. http://www.thepufferforum.com/fo...

Re: amazon puffer not eating
Very difficult to see his teeth as he us so small!
No ammonia /nitrite present in the tank.
He has eaten brine shrimp and snails live.
He will not eat frozen food though.
Is this normal for a new puffer?
He is still pacing the sides of the tank. ..is this normal at 1st to?
Thanks all

Hi all, i brought my amazon puffer home yesterday night and I went to feed him today some frozen bloodworm and he looked like he started to eat it and then just spat it out. Also I had 4 algae eaters I'm there which he did seem interested in but then lost interest (obviously i dont want him to eat t...
