Re: current orbit marine led 36 to 48.....enough for a 33G?

Slowly ramp it up. you're going to want that light at close to max intensity for best/fastest growth. I would go from M2 to M4 to M1 to M3, if that makes any sense. I think thats what i did. I believe i ran each schedule for a week. M1 is also a nice program to stop at, depending on your tank. Its d...

Re: current orbit marine led 36 to 48.....enough for a 33G?

It'll be just fine for both of those. Just don't expect explosive growth. And by explosive growth, i mean zoa colonies rapidly taking over entire sections of your tank. For example, I have a 40g Breeder which is 17 inches deep. I grew zoas and toadstools under the light you currently own just fine. ...

Yup, i liked it also (well like i said, i still have it...just not over my corals). You should have no problems slow growing soft corals and LPS. Enjoy it!

Re: anyone keep soft corals with GSP?

Yeah, mine has generally left it alone after a nip or two. There is always a risk though. It just depends on the puffer.

Re: current orbit marine led 36 to 48.....enough for a 33G?

I have no experience with T5's. I actually have a beefier LED system now. It is a reefbreeder photon 24w. They make good lights relatively cheap, and the difference between the 2 systems are staggering. They also have good black friday sales generally. I'm not saying the Orbit marine is a bad light ...

Re: current orbit marine led 36 to 48.....enough for a 33G?

I bought a Current Orbit Marine when i considered running a fowlr. It is a nice light unless you want to go with some coral (even softies). I quickly upgraded. Long story short: If you want to run a Fowlr and dont care about coral, or coral growth = nice inexpensive LED fixture If you want to grow c...

Re: Thinking of doubling filtration...

I had a canister and HOB filter running simultaneously on my F8's tank for years. No ill effects, but, like TwistOfF8 mentioned above; it will not alter your water change schedule a bit. It does however give a nice water flow and increases the filtration of water dramatically.

Vitamin C dosing

I've been researching (reading 100+ page threads) of vitamin C dosing to improve overall health of fish, zoa's, etc. as well as polishing the water chemistry a bit more. All of the threads recommend a supplement purchased from iherb.com. The links, however, are outdated and dead-ending for me. Can a...

Re: How long before adding clownfish?

That's a good policy for a store to have. I like that. It sounds like your live rock, while it was not in someone's display tank, was in fact from an established system. I bought my valentini (about 1.5") and a 3/4-1" clownfish at the same time. I have a 40g breeder, so it is about the sam...

40G Breeder Valentini Tank

I was wondering if anyone with Valentini experience could help me solve a stocking question: I have a 40g Breeder with a 20g sump (large skimmer) and 60lb of live rock between the two. The tank is stocked with: 1 Valentini (3") 2 Ocellaris Clowns (1", 1.75") many, many Zoas/palys mush...

Re: Protecting Fingers

I've never had a problem with my puffers attacking me but, my clownfish are A-holes. I cant do anything in my tank without them trying to sample my hands. I use brewing gloved that i have leftover from my beer making days. I mainly use them because i have a lot of palythoa and i'm hyper paranoid abo...

Re: Puffer questions

Second the Valentini. I have a small montipora, 2 hammer coral, a frogspawn, and several zoas/palys. My valentini could really care less about any of the coral in my tank. Model citizen but, then again...you never know with puffers. It also seems to be way less aggressive with my other fish.

Re: experience of full marine tank mates for GSP

Before i swapped out my GSP for a Valentini, I had it in a 40g Breeder with 2 clownfish. They got along well. Here is the caveat though...the clownfish were about an inch long. The GSP was about an inch an a half. They were dwarfed by the size of the tank and rarely came in contact with each other. ...

Re: 40 gallon GSP set up

That setup looks good to me. You didnt mention the obvious things like heaters and such but i'm sure you have them. We'd love to see a picture. I particularly like seeing other people's live rock placement, so i can get new ideas for when i eventually re-landscape. Is is going to be a FOWLR or reef?
