Re: Snails??

If you want some snails and want to travel to the northern suburbs of Chicago, you can have my tank full. I got the originals from plants I purchased and free from one of the box stores. They're pond and ramshorn. Due to some personal issues, I took my GSP back to Old Orchard Aquarium, but still hav...

Pandora,

To get plants at an inexpensive price, check out the fish clubs in your area.

I belong to a cichlid club that has swaps (for anyone who wants to attend) once a month with really great prices on equipment, plants, snails, etc.

Re: GSP: How long does it take to reach full size?

Fella,

I have to agree with you. It doesn't appear to me that Stanley, my GSP, has grown that much in the year I have owned him.

Nick,

Weeks after I put in ten ghost shrimp in the GSP tank, I found one still alive while rearranging fake plants. I couldn't believe it survived that long! Guess Stanley (my GSP) hasn't developed the killer instinct yet

wwcnd,

Unfortunately, I think you may find out the literature is correct. I hope you are correct since tempement varies from fish to fish.

My GSP used to do that also. I kept thinking he must be hurting himself hitting the cover so hard.

I knew it was me scaring him 'cause he'd only do it when I was by the tank.

I found that once I planted the tank (with fake plants) and he had a place to hide he didn't do it.

Eraser,

My GSP also doesn't like it when the light is on. I find him under the heater.

At the lfs I purchased two fake water lilies that float on the top of the tank. That seemed to help diffuse the light and the little bugger seems happier.

Michelle,

Where do you find mussels small enough for a Figure 8? I have a GSP and have been unable to find them small enough.

Mike,

I don't know about the size of the tank or proper filtration. Rocker wrote an article about it, so you should be able to find it at this site.

No, I don't wilt the spinach and lettuce--I just throw it in and they love it!

What a great idea :supercool:

Wish I would have thought of it while I was trying to pick snails off the glass.

Good going!

Mike,

I have a ten gallon tank with a heater and filter. I also have a cuttle bone.

I feed them left-over puffer food, plus lettuce and spinach.

They're reproducing rapidly--so much so that I think I may end up with too many.

Good Luck,
