i had the same problem in my freshwater tank (very overstocked at the time) and i found increaseing surface aggitaion got rid of it, if you made the powerhead blow water across the surface so the outlet is inline with the surface so its half breaking it and blowing across the tank then it should do ...

yea its a figure 8 puffer for a 15 US gallon tank (54 litres)

i had a betta in the tank with the oldest of the guppys and ~40 shrimp, but the shrimp died not cheap shrimp either so i sold the fighter and chucked in 5 more guppy fry, just to keep a low level of bacteria going

should i stagger the addition of salt into 2 parts a week apart so as not to kill off all the bacteria or do you not think that will be enough? i only need it about 1.005

i currently have a few guppies in there keeping the filter going but i'll remove them when i add the puffer

yes but as it's only <1cm with the weekly stir it'd be fine, and its ok as long as it's thoroughly washed

personally i'd use normal sand, or a very fine layer of thoughrally washed play pit sand i'd only have 1cm of aquarium sand/river sand as well as it doesn't go anaerobic (bad) as fast as a deeper layer i'd stir it up weekly as it's not worth the risk of it going bad as ive had it go bad my self and ...

well the £8 ones are kept in a breeding trap floating in a tank of dwarf gourami (freshwater) and most of that shops fish are poor quality

oh and just to make sure i can do water changes with salted, de-chlorinated tap water can't i as my nitrates are only 3ppm

well i'd probably be able to "borrow" the salt from a mate who has a lot of marine tanks, if you know what i mean

oh, i was going to aim for 1.010-1.014 least i know that i can use about half the amount of salt

what size did u buy ur F8's?

what sort of salinity should i aim for roughly? 1.010? as i know they wouldn't mind fluctuations too much

my boss said he's going to try to order a batch in tomorrow so hopefully i'll have one in a few weeks

would a 54 litre tank be ok? 2 foot long, 1 foot wide, 1 foot high

your local aquatics store (none chain store like pets @ home) should have/sell RO water, they shouldn't mind u using a bit to do your job
