Re: clove oil

I'd just like to be one more person saying "I'm glad you were able to order the MS-222 (and avoid using clove oil)"! I've always used the cuticle clippers as Pufferpunk suggests. I do keep a pair of regular nail clippers on hand, but I think the cuticle clippers make it easier to avoid acc...

Re: MS-222

I'm going to try again today. Hopefully in the next hour, I'm getting things prepped. I think with an extra set of hands here it will go smoother. I know he doesn't have to be totally out, but he is a rambunctious puffer - I couldn't get him to be still at all last time. But, I think I had too much ...

Re: MS-222/Finquel frequency

Should I be expecting him to roll over on his side/back, his breathing very slow?

Should I try a larger dose next time?

Re: MS-222/Finquel frequency

Ok, that's good to know. I think I need an extra set of hands and a bigger net next time. It is getting really hard for him to eat so I'm so anxious to get his trimmed. I think he'll be okay for two more days, though... I don't usually feed him bloodworms, but I've been feeding him thawed bloodworms...

Re: MS-222/Finquel frequency

Additional question: is it safe to trim his teeth out of the water if he is still visibly breathing? I was trying not to...

MS-222/Finquel frequency

I'm in the process of trying to trim my 5+ yr old A. Modestus' teeth. I'm using MS-222 that I got from Pufferpunk. I apparently did not dose him properly because after almost 15 minutes he was breathing pretty strongly and would react to my touch (although he was mainly just sitting there in the dos...

Thanks again, Pufferpunk! It was a pleasure to meet you and your puffers! I will be trimming Bak Mei's teeth tomorrow afternoon! :D . :thumb:

Re: True Freshwater Puffers?

Do you already have an aquarium you plan to use? That would help narrow down what freshwater puffers would be best. Keep in mind that the smaller tank you have, the harder it will be to keep the water parameters balanced. If you are new to keeping fish, a larger tank is better, I think. If you are n...

Re: MS-222

Yes, I do recall that Pufferpunk lives in Chicago. I also recall her expertise on the matter :D - she gave me some advice years ago when I last did this . I think I can handle the procedure once I have the correct anesthetic, although it is very tempting to hire her to do it for me... Pufferpunk, or...

MS-222

My Modestus is very much ready for a trimming! I used Clove oil several years ago on him and I didn't enjoy it at all. I got a bad feeling about it. I'm glad to see there is a new anesthetic being used - MS-222. I would really like to take care of my puffer today as he's having trouble eating. Is th...

Re: Badly beat Modestus

Thanks, good call on the melafix/pimafix - can't believe I haven't done that yet.

Luckily (!), only Chamir is hurt. Bak Mei does not have a single scratch on him. He is definitely the mean one.

Badly beat Modestus

For the past couple years I've had two Modestus puffers in a 55 gallon tank. When they were very young they could be around each other, but for at least a year now I've had a divider in their tank. Never had any big problems and both puffers have always been happy and healthy with good appetites. A ...

Re: Dwarf w/ IPs - what else can I do?

Yes, that's what I read today.

Lorenzo was still alive when I came home from work. I left again and came home now and tank lights are off...pretty hard to find him at night.
