Added a second puffer
We've been checking back in to the local pet store where we bought Opie, our tetraodon Abei, to see if they got another in. Opie's been doing great, his heater burn healed completely on its own and we finally got our tank cycled and at the equilibrium point. Yesterday we had the day off and stopped ...

Two weeks, no nitrites
Hello Today marks the two week point for our 37 gallon tank, home to one puffer, Opie, three live plants (a moss ball, an amazon sword, and one I don’t know the name of). We’ve been doing daily water changes religiously, ammonia levels have been at .25-.50 ppm. We turkey baste the waste out with eac...

Scared me
So while studying I look over and notice Opie’s sitting at the bottom of the tank, in a corner near a tree-trunk object we have in the tank. He rarely sits anywhere for more than a second and is very active. I kept a close eye on him, getting more and more nervous by the second. As I was preparing t...

Re: Opie’s teeth!
Good idea. We actually rearranged his tank today when we did a water change and I pushed the heater down towards the bottom, behind a fake plant. He doesn’t go back there so it’s much better in this new location.

Re: Opie’s teeth!
We’re not sure- it appeared shortly after we got him, we think maybe a heater burn?

We got a great clip of Opie showing his teeth after eating an earthworm this morning

Feeding
So I bought Opie a variety of foods now, including, frozen oysters on a half shell, blood worms, earth worms, and freeze dried jumbo crill. I’m a little nervous on feeding him the blood worms- mostly because they remind me of intestinal type parasites lol. Should I rinse them before I feed them to h...

Re: Opie playing in the bubbles
Thank you for the advice!! I'm going to monitor the water closely (we have a notebook we've been keeping to trend the values for pH, KH, NH3, etc..

Re: Opie playing in the bubbles
Hmm maybe I'll put a piece in then, especially since it will help lower the pH, I'll see what I can find. I was hoping maybe the moss ball could help with the pH a little too but it's just a tiny moss ball.

Re: Help!
Thank you for sharing the link! Man I would have never suspected when we first got Opie that he'd be so high maintenance, LOL, but we love him dearly and I'm actually having fun with making a home for him and keeping him safe and happy. It sounds like buying some frozen shrimp/mussels and using eart...

Re: Opie playing in the bubbles
I'll look into using the pH balance product they sell in the store. My concern about real wood in the tank is discoloration from the tannins.
