Re: GSP Lethargic and weak

I haven't really wanted to deal with it, but he finally passed on Friday. Still clueless as to what caused it. I did a make shift necropsy, and all I could fish was extreme bruising on his left side. Not sure if he got blown around by the powerhead or got in a fight with my female clown, or ? I hate...

Re: GSP Lethargic and weak

I don't have any real FW filtration. Just poly pad to remove detritus and bioballs for beneficial bacteria, same as you use on a sumpless reef/FOWLR tank. There are 2 powerheads and a Reef Octopus 150 EXT. The only thing I have to watch is food getting trapped in the canister filter occasionally and...

Re: GSP Lethargic and weak

I thought a protein skimmer was beneficial? How would you set up a sumpless filtration system?

Re: GSP Lethargic and weak

Aquaclear 110 and Fluval 404, as the water polishing media. And I haven't weighed live rock, but about 80lbs.

Re: GSP Lethargic and weak

It had been a while since I rinsed filters and removed green hair algae. So I removed 90% of the aquascape, scrubbed algae, and rearranged aquascaping upon placing back in the tank. I also cleaned both filters and the protein skimmer, and replaced 50% of the poly filter as it was starting to lose it...

GSP Lethargic and weak

Ammonia:0 Nitrite:0 Nitrate:<20ppm SG: 1.022 80 Gallon with various snails, 2 Tomato Clownfish, 2 4-stripe Damselfish (10 days), and 2 GSP. Major aquascape overhaul and filter maintenance 2 weeks ago. Suddenly this afternoon my smaller GSP looks lethargic and belly is staying black. Of the 2 he is a...

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?

So hadn't been on the forum for awhile, was taking another look at this thread, and I realized my GSPs had just moved to full marine 1.021 when I looked last. So here is my experience. I had one 1" GSP that I slowly acclimated from 1.008 to 1.021, then was asked by my local FW LFS with many yea...

Re: Tank mates for dogface

My GSPs, tomato clown, Matted Filefish, and Lawnmower Blenny all do okay with MY Dogface, but you do need to be really careful. Clean up crews are out of the questions for me, anything with a shell gets eaten. A pair of clowns would put my dogface off food, as could my GSPs if they had the temperame...

Re: Puffer tank

I keep a Dogface and 2 GSPs in a 80 gallon tank together. Eventually the Dogface will need to have his own tank, I just haven't had the money to do so the last couple of years. I will say they have established a good working relationship based on size and personality. The Dogface is big and shy, the...

Dogface worries

My dogface has picked up an odd "habit" that is both concerning and puzzling. I am still running two canister flters, a HOB skimmer, and a aquaclear 110 for circulation so I have 5 pickups on the back of my 85. Twice in the last week I have walked into the room to find "Tank" han...

Re: Dog Faced Puffer vs Undulated Trigger as a "pet"

I have a 85 gallon reef tank with a Dog-faced and 2 GSPs, and I would not trade my Dog-face for anything at this point. I equate the combination to having a big dog and two smaller dogs that you keep in a fish tank. They meet you at the glass when you walk in the room, and they are constantly playing...

Arothron nigropunctatus would be a great singleton in a 150G FOWLR tank.

Re: Introducing new Puffers

+1 to PPs remark, unless you have over 120 gallons three GSPs in a single tank is going to be alot. I haven't personally done puffers so I will give you advice based on other semi-aggressive fish I have introduced to an established tank. Only introduce full grown adult specimens into a tank with an ...

Re: Help to care for my puffer!

Start with the links PP posted above. As someone who has had many GSPs in the past, and didn't know where to start I will give you a few pointers based on your above post. First, what are you calling aquarium salt? Aquarium salt typically is sold as a water softener for FW fish and should not be use...

Re: name that puffer (what kind of fish is this?)

+1 to Welch4 I highly recommend keeping these in a SW aquarium, and have something you may want to consider. It takes about 6 months to cycle a SW tank, so if you have the money to buy a 50+ tank for him now, you should start it cycling so you can add Live and reef rock in a month. This is also help...
