Re: Urgent help required please?

Posting this here in case anybody has any advice. Pictures at the bottom. I have a several month old large 75 gallon marine setup with a 20 gallon sump. I started with a 9" lionfish as my first fish after first establishing with approx 25KG of live rock and 75KG of coral sand topped with 10KG o...

Re: Urgent help required please?

no, far from it sadly, the only other fish is my Lion Fish, and he seems reinfested every morning, although I can't be 100% certain that as he's become so lethargic he isn't actually covered in tiny grains of Coral Sand rather than the parasite, so I'm going to have to continue treating with the cup...

Re: Urgent help required please?

Can you post a pic? What coral was it? World of water are normally very good. I've got pics, but the white spots can't really be seen, just the eyes clouded over badly. It was a mushroom coral, currently back at another LFS in a QT tank. I've done a first dose of Cupramin as I can't see anything el...

Urgent help required please?

I have a 600+ litre marine tank with a large lionfish and a large Porcupine Puffer. All been eating fine and happy. At the weekend I added a small piece of Coral from World of Water and ever since the Porcupine has got gradually cloudier eyes. THis morning he is covered in little white spots and it ...

Re: finally i have my puffer!! is the species right?

AH OK, in which case I'll be treating my latest 2. The little ones look really healthy, but the bigger ones have constantly changing dark bellies, sometimes white and sometimes very dark. Even though I've started the change to marine from fresh.

Hope not to sound patronising but your 29 gallon, you are feeding the established filter media daily?

Re: finally i have my puffer!! is the species right?

I've been advised not to treat for IP unless there are symptoms. There seem to be loads of these larger ones around the UK at the moment, I go t my 2 from a local fish shop who said they were fresh water, but spoke to another fish shop who said they came in full marine. And they have the same suppli...

Can't add anything helpful I'm afraid other than wishing you both good luck. We're just down the road near Market Harborough but you seem to be doing everything you can.

Re: Using a refractometer

I can see why you'd do that for a marine tank, and I do tend to go over the top with testing accuracy because that's how I am, but considering the wide range of suitable water for the GSP I don't suppose even a .004 discrepancy would really matter, as long as I only build up slowly and don't cause m...

Re: Strange Way to Start a Saturday Morning

That's amazing :) really pleased for you, I'm paranoid about any of mine jumping out!

One thing I don't understand though, how do you know he was out for over 2 hours and not 5-10 mins, easily enough time to dry out?

Re: Using a refractometer

Thanks :)

Used distilled/purified from the chemist as that is all I could get. Very simple and easy. And I'd got my salt concentrations almost exactly right too, so a very satisfactory start!

Using a refractometer

I'm just starting to move my two green spotted puffer tanks to brackish water. So I've got a RHSN-10ATC refractometer but no instructions, however my understanding is that I calibrate it with RO or distilled water and then measure my salted water. Device looks easy to use and calibrate but I don't g...

Re: Teeth or other food problem

Can't really see anything, unless it's hampering it's breathing or eating, I would leave it alone. I had dislodged a whole crayfish from mine some time ago.. Absolute nightmare... Yes, really hard to see in pics. Definitely not hampering breathing, making eating a little difficult but still just ma...

Teeth or other food problem

I've had My Fahaka a few weeks now and he's eating well now, but will only eat worms or mussels, although the last couple of days the odd snail I've been putting in seems to be disappearing, hopefully being eaten, but I never see him do it. However yesterday he dived on his muscle, which he takes fr...
