Re: How to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ?
It's very well possible you found a way to differentiate between different populations within the T. nigroviridis and related species/subspecies. I just wouldn't call something a T. sabahensis, when it does not fit the first descriptions of this species. It's like calling a cow a horse. As a sideno...

I love this kind of debate, and I can learn the westerners' opinions towards those fish that we all love.purplecandle wrote:Don't feel bad...this debate has occurred often!
I think some confusion comes in because Puffers that look like mine tend to grow fast quickly, which makes one think they could be sab.

Re: How to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ?
@Purple Candle: His Pics. The last one labelled GSP looks very much like the ones Dekkers illustrated and described as sabahensis. Your puffers are in my opinion what is classified as GSP, although I am certain, there are several species or subspecies or regional varieties within this species. They...

Re: How to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ?
We have debated this a long time...and we can't agree! I'm starting to wonder if mine are sabs because my big one is getting to 7 inches. I have to get a better measure to make sure. Why are sabahensis more expensive? I have seen your pics in your post"My GSPs",and I am sure to say that b...

Re: How to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ?
I think you got it wrong and define species not in the way science does. If you want to use the scientific name T. sabahensis, you have to use it in the way of their original description. Please read at least the work by W.J. Dekkers (Review of the asiatic freshwater puffers...) on this species or ...

Re: How to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ?
You probably can't distinguish them without DNA analysis. Some scientists have written that even Tetraodon fluviatilis and Tetraodon nigroviridis have so much variation within each species ("polymorphism") that you can find some fish that are genetically Tetraodon fluviatilis but look lik...

Re: My GSPs
Actually, the adult size of a GSP is 6". I saw many videos in YouTube, and many sabahensis keepers said that their little cuties are GSPs, so it's hard for me to change your opinion.I have no other evidence to show my opinion is right, and the only way is to do the long-time experiment that I su...

Re: My GSPs
Actually, the adult size of a GSP is 6". Well, actually I want to say that your two puffers are sabahensis, but I am sure you will disagree with me.Just see the post below. http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33931 If you can show me a GSP picture which has a distinct pat...

Re: How to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ?
I know some of you may disagree with my distinguishing method, but many Chinese People use this method to distinguish them, and both of them are strictly separated to be sold. Therefore,it's easy for us to believe that this method is absolutely right, because I've kept these two species for many years,a...

Re: My GSPs
Mine are in a 55g tank and I have only had them for 10 months. One seems to be stuck at 2.5 inches while another quickly grew from 1.25 inches to 3.75 inches. Maybe you don't agree with me, but I dare to say the one which seems to be stuck at 2.5 inches is GSP,and the other one which grew to 3.75 i...

How to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ?
After I became the member of TPF, I found that many fish keepers don't know how to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs,and sometimes they bought a sabahensis from a group of GSPs,only after their little cuties grew up did they recognize that their GSPs were sabahensis.I am so envy of those who ...

I believe you may be incorrect. I bought these 2 & they looked exactly like the same GSPs you see at any store, when they were juvies. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/Pufferpunk/Pufferpics/Small_GSPs.jpg I know how to distinguish the baby sabahensis and GSPs ! In China, the sellers are g...

Re: Green Spotted Puffer
Some may disagree with me, me but I think that puffer may be a Tetraodon Sabahensis, (Indian Giant Spotted Puffer) , not a green spotted puffer. His markings are very MBU like. If this puffer grows more than 6inches (15 cm), he is likely not a green spotted puffer. Here are pictures of Tetraodon Sa...
