Re: Young GSP's in full marine?
Since George died I had to go and get me a new GSP. Ive had the new guy, George Jr. for almost a week now. He is maybe an inch long at the most, definitely a juvenile. I acclimated him to full marine (1.025) over the course of 24 hours. He has been in my 55 gal saltwater tank for only about 2 days, ...

Re: acclimating new GSP to full marine
I don't think you have to stretch it out over a 2 month period. Although it wouldn't hurt anything. Personally I acclimated my GSP from fresh to full marine in just 2 weeks, but I don't think that's reccomended

Re: Good algae or cyano?
It's not harmful, just ugly! Remove it manually. I believe it's called brown diatoms?? Some of my tanks get it, some don't. My tanks with the least light get it quicker. Rtr should know its exact name.. I think it's called diatoms though. Thanks a lot for the input! If its not harmful i will just c...

My GSP George has died :(
I'm sorry to say that George is no longer with me. I came to the conclusion that my tank did not have enough water circulation in it, so I ignorantly put in a submersible pump that I had previously used for hydroponics that i bought from a hydroponic store years ago. It was rated at 396 GPH, so its ...

Re: Valentini puffer hiding/laying on rock
This is a very small store and the owner is really great, he's told me in the past to bring anything back if it doesn't work out. I'm pretty sure he will take it and QT it. Since I know that's what he did when I donated all my freshwater fish to him. The bta stung my clown a few days after I put it...

Good algae or cyano?
Since I am fairly new to the hobby I still have a lot to learn. I am just wanting everyone's opinion on this. Does this look like OK algae or cyano? Thanks in advance for the input!

Re: Advice on what my levels should be at please!!!
Thanks RTR, forgot this was SW. Ammonia? Any other fish? How long has this tank been set up? Remove those HOB filters. They're for FW. In SW, they're considered nitrate factories. How much live rock in there? Powerheads? http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/library/water-filtration/brownalgaediatoms...

What are the tank mates in the tank where you are attempting to breed snails? How long has the tank been set up? What size is it? How often do you water change?

That's awfully scary....define "blown up"...do you mean as in shards of glass all in the tank?Arny wrote:I've blown up loads of heaters by forgetting to switch them off during water changes

Re: Evicting Red Slime
About the possible "limescale" I bought a used 55 GAL aquarium from my LFS for $100, and it was covered in this limescale stuff in like 3 different heights of the tank where you could tell the water line was at for a long time. I asked them what would help me to get it off because i tried ...

Water Changes
Just curious, how often do you guys change your water under normal circumstances, once a week? every other week? once a month? and what percentage of the tank volume do you usually change? I know that the recommended is to change 10-25% every week, or somewhere around there, im just curious what you...
