Re: Why redeyes are no longer available?

Yes, they were back on the market a month and a half ago. First in US, then UK, then Europe. I got my group of 6 ;-) They are on the small side though, and usually the season was more like November...So something has definitely changed for irrubesco harvesting....

Re: New irrubesco group - finally!

in cm 120*70, 42 deep. 350l, about 90 gal I think...The pic is through the "small" 70cm side ;-) It's more like reef tanks, with a large footprint and relatively shallow, and visible from all sides. Also have a very high canopy (with glass windows), even if it's not open it's more of a rip...

Re: New irrubesco group - finally!

A group picture. I have now 4 females and 2 males, which seems to work quite well, at least for now, when one male and 2 females are still really young. Paradoxically, introducing the last male has reduced chasing compared to when I had one male for 4 females...hopefully this will stay the same when...

Re: DP 3G?

3G is 12l, i think, so about 30*20*20cm. It is small, but if well planted it may work. More than the puffer being cramped, I have doubts about keeping such a small tank stable: it will not be so easy, even if you select easy plants. If you try it, I would suggest to be sure that the tank is both wel...

Re: New irrubesco group - finally!

Maybe, but I would not draw conclusions too quickly: in another shop, they got only females. And a third shop, very close to my home, got a bunch with equal sex ratio, so i am not sure the wholesaler got unbalanced sex, just that they got smaller than usual fishes, because everywhere they are small....

Re: 2 ft tank and Freshwater Puffers

2ft/29 gal apparently...hence my impression it was quite cube-like. Maybe a micro reef: 1 feet deep, 2 feet square base...
Or 2 long, 1.4 deep and wide...but probably not a classical tank, which would be closer to 20 gal I think...

Re: 2 ft tank and Freshwater Puffers

You could try an irrubesco (or another red eye specie, if you can get one: lorteti, borneensis or salivator) 1 male, or maybe 2 females (may be a bit tight). A couple will probably be too much, males are larger and they charge a lot even for the more peaceful redeye...lorteti is even bigger, but the...

New irrubesco group - finally!

Finally got my irrubescos, even if the group is smaller than I first intended (2M+4F): One of my LFS (Located in Belgium, very near France) did indeed had some, likely from a German importer/wholesaler: they were maybe 20 in the tanks, looking healthy without much aggression marks (good surprise), b...

Re: How to never feed a puffer

It's probably possible to do so, but I feel the fish per gallon ratio should be very small for this to work long term. In my previous tank, after introducing irrubesco, all snails except MTS dissapeared completely, in 2 days. The tanks was not big, but still, I do not feel that with the usual fish d...

Re: More irrubescos

Found some local source, finally! So if all works well, I should have my group this friday or saturday. Apparently they are young adults, not emaciated but probably shipped with too many fishes per box, so quite a few aggression marks. I am also wondering how many males and females to include in tha...

Re: More irrubescos

They are popping here and there in Europe: Germany, UK, sweden, seems that the import lines from indonesia are back....But not in Belgium yet  I could order them online from german shops, wanted 2 males and 3-4 females....but I do not like buying live fishes online and worst: the shipping cost ...

interesting poster about the uncommon borneo red eye puffer....

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/320536136_Development_of_Bornean_Red-Eye_Puffer_Carinotetraodon_borneensis_in_Captivity_for_Ornamental_Fish_Industry Looks like they are considering farm-raising this puffer.... Some reports I have seen in the past mention that borneensis is even more tame th...

Re: Skinny and delayed Tetraodon schoutedeni (spotted congo) shipment

They were on eBay...strange for the Mbu, I saw one in a local shop in Wavre (30km south of Brussels) 1 month ago, about 15-20cm, 185€....and this shop is not among the cheapest usually...it looked healthy and very nice...but I don't have a tank big enough for a mbu unfortunately... Having very diffe...
