Re: Using well water in aquarium
So if I manage to use my well water, I will test every odd days, should I add prime to the water when I change it or is it worthless to do so?

Re: Using well water in aquarium
I am redoing the test now with my new fahaka... but back in the days I had a figure 8 in a 26gallons tank, salanity was 1.004-5. If I used my well water, which has no chlorine in it, with some prime, after 3 days the nitrite and nitrate would go up to the point I needed a water change. But if I used...

Re: Using well water in aquarium
I do have a test kit, the question was when I used well water the water quality would go bad faster then when I am using chloronated town water. I was just wondering why this may be...

Using well water in aquarium
Hello, I was talking to the girl that works at my LFS about water quality... I have a well at home but I always went to the next town to have town water and put some Prime in it for the chlorine. I have tried putting water from my well in the aquarium before but lost control of the nitrites within 3...

Re: Sand substrate fogging up my tank
Thank you, I'll look into it. Do you normally replace the foam in the filter by the floss or just add the floss on it??? I used to run the aquarium without the charcoal when I had the figure 8, right now it's in there because it's cycling but maybe later I could replace the charcoal by the filter fl...

Sand substrate fogging up my tank
Hello, I've decided to put playsand in my 80gallon tank that is cycle at the moment ( fishless ). I've cleaned the sand like you guys suggested. I've put 2-3 pounds of sand in a pale, filled it with tap water mixing it by hand to kick up the dust. Emptying it, refilling it, repeated until the water ...

Help choosing best puffer option
Hello, I haven't been active on this forum for a while but now I got a new tank and feel like getting back to puffer caring... I used to own a figure 8 for 4 years, so I have some experience with puffers. Long story short, my friend's son bought a used tank, was told it was more then 90gallons but c...

Re: Might get new puffer, which could be easier to care for?
Since I don't have the tank yet I was going to look for the size I need more than fit a fish in what I got. But I was reading and figured a 120gallons for a minimum. I red somewhere that a long tank would be better than a corner tank, more room to swim even though it's the same volume, what do you t...

Might get new puffer, which could be easier to care for?
Hello, I've been out of the puffer scene for now roughly 3-4 years. My figure 8 puffer died and I kept on with my aquarium but instead tried at crayfishes. Then those past away and now am holding on to plecos, that are 3 different species but are actually breeding for some reason. Anyways, I'm start...

Figure 8's teeth are starting to be long...
My puffer's teeth are, to my eyeball, getting pretty long, it can eat fine but sometimes when eating the skin on the shrimp or fish I feed him stays stuck on the tooth. So since I don't want to manually cut them if I can help it, I feed him snails, but it figured out how to suck them out instead on ...

Wall backings
What do you guys put on the walls in back of your aquariums??? I have a standard gyproc painted wall, but it's wine red, so you can clearly see that the area surrounding the aquarium is lighter spotted by the salty waters fumes/evaporation. We're trying to clean it out right now and it's not working...

Re: Figure 8 growth rate?
I've had my figure 8 for a little more than 3years now, has always been alone in a 26gallons tank, 50%water change every week and it is, by eyeball, between 2 and 2 1/2" long.

Big snail and small snails in same tank???
I have 3 apple snails in a 5 gallons tank... Used to have 5, 2 passed away last month, had them for over a year, never did they even breed once... Today going at a local pet shop, I picked up some small snails, dunno the kind, they have an infestation of them so they gave some. Right now I set them ...
