Re: Hole in the cheek of my fahaka
Well... sadly he didn't survive the treatment... hopefully I didn't kill him doing the treatment... After receiving the melafix yesterday, I did a 15% water change, then the treatment of mealfix like stated on the bottle 5ml for every 38L, the fish was alright then, tonight I did another treatment l...

Re: Hole in the cheek of my fahaka
Since I don't know if it's an infection or not, do I still treat the tank anyways in case? Also, I think I can get those by amazon, but it will take at least 48hres, I have these products by seachem at home, can one of these be a good alternative?: Paraguard Polyguard Metroplex Focus If not I will o...

Hello, PH: 7.5-8 Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 10 10-20% water change every week and a half My fahaka lives on his own for 4 years now in a 100gallon tank, I think it was stunted from the beginning because it was 2inches when I bought it and now it's only 5 inches, fed everyday to his appetite... s...

Re: How to remove weird hair-like algea
I know you only recommended the H2O2 but the website you share suggested the CO2. So I stopped trying with the CO2 and I have started the H2O2 to test. By regularly do you mean once a week or more often than that?

Re: How to remove weird hair-like algea
Alright, here's the update on the CO2... so far it didn't work... :( I have been putting slightly more than the required minimum dose but less that the maximum written on the bottle. I tried putting the product randomly in the aquarium and also locally where there is more of the algae but sadly so f...

Re: How to remove weird hair-like algea
Sorry for the delay, I was waiting on the product to come in to give updates if it worked or not but I did not receive it yet. What would be the benefit of adding peroxide every other day? If it saves the fish when power goes out I imagine that it must make some sort of chemical reaction inside the ...

Re: How to remove weird hair-like algea
Thank you for the link that was a very interesting article!!! My algae seems to be the one they call Black beard algae. They suggest going with the CO2 treatment. I ordered a bottle and will try. If no good results come from it, I will try the H²O² as they also suggest to locally fog the region with...

How to remove weird hair-like algea
Hello, Haven't posted in here in a long time. I have a Fahaka in a 100gallons tank. He's all by himself in that tank. I've notice these blackish hair-like algea poping up here and there in the aquarium. Sometimes on decors, other times in the windows and now on a live plant. The tank has been runnin...

Re: Using well water in aquarium
So if I manage to use my well water, I will test every odd days, should I add prime to the water when I change it or is it worthless to do so?

Re: Using well water in aquarium
I am redoing the test now with my new fahaka... but back in the days I had a figure 8 in a 26gallons tank, salanity was 1.004-5. If I used my well water, which has no chlorine in it, with some prime, after 3 days the nitrite and nitrate would go up to the point I needed a water change. But if I used...

Re: Using well water in aquarium
I do have a test kit, the question was when I used well water the water quality would go bad faster then when I am using chloronated town water. I was just wondering why this may be...

Using well water in aquarium
Hello, I was talking to the girl that works at my LFS about water quality... I have a well at home but I always went to the next town to have town water and put some Prime in it for the chlorine. I have tried putting water from my well in the aquarium before but lost control of the nitrites within 3...

Re: Sand substrate fogging up my tank
Thank you, I'll look into it. Do you normally replace the foam in the filter by the floss or just add the floss on it??? I used to run the aquarium without the charcoal when I had the figure 8, right now it's in there because it's cycling but maybe later I could replace the charcoal by the filter fl...

Sand substrate fogging up my tank
Hello, I've decided to put playsand in my 80gallon tank that is cycle at the moment ( fishless ). I've cleaned the sand like you guys suggested. I've put 2-3 pounds of sand in a pale, filled it with tap water mixing it by hand to kick up the dust. Emptying it, refilling it, repeated until the water ...

Help choosing best puffer option
Hello, I haven't been active on this forum for a while but now I got a new tank and feel like getting back to puffer caring... I used to own a figure 8 for 4 years, so I have some experience with puffers. Long story short, my friend's son bought a used tank, was told it was more then 90gallons but c...
