Re: Palembang puffers
I have had a Palembang in a 40g for about ayear and I find they are more active than most people think. At night she does swim around quite abit. I don't think I would keep two in less than a tank with a 4'x2" preferably 6'x2 foot print. They are gonna need alot of space to not fight each other.

I updated my post with explainations. Nice Puffers Woland love the colours. Yunachin do your husbands tatts look cool from behind when he is walking? Anybody got a tattoo that is designed to look cool when you are moving? PP(or any of our heavily inked friends) I know your sense of modesty and the F...

Palembang feeding and behavior
I have a 7" palembang puffer alone in a 75g heavily planted tank. I for the last six months I have been feeing her on mondays and fridays, I use chopsticks and wave a large shrimp in front of her and she would come the couple of inches and happily wolf it down. After eating she would slide back...

Re: UUUUGH!
I have no idea why you can't get a cycle going. As PP says maybe yor test kits are no good. If not maybe your ammonia levels are too low. If you are in Toronto or come here occasionally, I can hook you up with some cycled brackish media.

Re: green spotted puffer in freshwater?
Individual fish will behave differently but high and brackish or marine should be pretty equal as far as health of the fish. The savings are primarily in the cost salt as water changes can be done less frequently in marine when using a protien skimmer and live rock and/or sand. I believe that crushe...

Re: Help! Unusual F8 behavior
I am sorry to hear about Steve. Puffers certainly do worm their way into your heart.
My F8s always seem to take awhile to pass out. Your dosage and method sound right, I don't think you did anything wrong. Unfortunately dentistry is risky at the best of times.
Keep your chin up.

Re: premixing
It sounds like you did it right. As far as trying out the mollies until you get the salt right sounds like a good plan. It never hurts to go slowly and make sure your comfortable with the new regimen.

Re: premixing
I agree with PP(as I always do) if you have fresh Biospira and use it correctly the tank will be immediately ready for the puffer no need to wait for it to cycle.
"Cycle" is basically nothing more than a weak ammonia source.

Re: premixing
no you don't need to start over. I use a powerhead and a heater because it is best that the water sit for at least 24hrs before adding to tank to make sure the salt is disloved. I fill up my mixing tank right after doing a water change so it sits for a week. I heat it so the water I add to my fish i...

Re: premixing
I have 2 brackish tanks 20g & 50g. both hovering around 0.005 sg. I use a 20g tank to mix salt in. I fill it with water add enough salt to bring the sg to 0.015. I use a python to remove 50% from the target tanks and then I fill up 1/3 of a 5g bucket with water from my 20g mixing tank and add 2/...

Re: ALGAECIDES in planted Fig8 tank! Please help!
The skipped water changes probably didn't help but it sounds like you plants got to a point where they had sucked most of the nutrients they needed out of your system. That's why they did well for awhile. If you get a DIY Co2 unit that uses a powerhead reactor then it can be plugged into your lighti...

Re: Change in Pufferpedia Arcticle
I had my Modestus in a Planted 20glong for about 8months. He seemed to be fine at 3". I recently moved him to 1/2 of a 75g. It has the same amount of floor space but alot more water for polution dilution. He is a very active puffer and I found that with lots of plants or decor he seems pretty h...

Re: crushed coral & plants
The crushed coral will be fine, it just won`t help the plants. I also suggest you try some java moss and java fern. Both works well in my brackish planted tank. If you look for my thread on brackish plants it has some pics and discussion on types of plants and acclimation. http://www.thepufferforum....
