Re: F8 Newbie Puffer Questions
There are some good articles on feeding and breeding snails in the puffer library: http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/library/category/feeding/ In the first article there is a list of all the different kinds of food you can give them. I am a fairly new figure 8 owner as well. So I picked pond snail...

Re: Figure 8 or spotted greene??
Figure 8's have these spots called "eye-spots". One is below their dorsal fin and the other is back by their tail. They have them as a defense mechanism to trick predators into thinking their eyes are on their tail. Look at the picture on this article: http://badmanstropicalfish.com/articl...

Re: weird habits
You can use aquarium safe silicone to glue stuff together but you have to let it dry for a few days. Maybe you could take a few rocks out at a time to glue them and then put them back in and take out a few more. I noticed my puffer using the filter out-take to swim in constantly so I added a small 1...

Re: how often should I feed?
okay, I will only feed 1x a day. He is such a pig. Always begging. He would probably kill himself if he had unlimited food. But Im not going to let him do that. He bites the tweezers I use to give him food. If I don't let go of it he gets aggressive. He's a strong little thing.

Re: how often should I feed?
I'm hoping he grows to 3 inches. I don't know if he is an adult. How do you tell? Last night I fed him two snails that were a little bigger than his mouth. This morning his belly is smaller again. Here is a picture of him. http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t314/little_c22/DSCN0983_zps41a766fb.jpg S...

how often should I feed?
So I have been feeding my 2" figure eight puffer twice a day. usually 3 to 4 snails in the morning (about the size of his mouth) and a piece of krill or silverside in the evening. I give him enough both times to make his belly round and stick out a bit from his body. Between feedings his belly ...

Re: Salinity for Figure 8
Just to clarify, tap water is 1.0 right? So I am adding marine salt to bring it up to 1.004?

Salinity for Figure 8
So I have been increasing the salinity in my Figure 8 puffer's 20 gallon tank for a few weeks but I am not sure where to stop. I've heard .003 to .008. So what is the sweet spot?

Re: Before figure of eight arrives
What size Eheim pump would I need to pump water strait up through tubing to 4 ft? This Eheim quick vac is cool but all of my tanks have sand. http://www.amazon.com/Automatic-Gravel-Cleaner-Sludge-Extractor/dp/B003C5U2SU/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1375745750&sr=8-4&keywords=eheim What do you ...

Re: Before figure of eight arrives
I think I get at least a gallon of water on the floor when I do water changes. I use 5 gallon buckets with lids, a bucket dolly (cuz I'm a weakling), tubing that doesn't like to bend, and a strong power head that has a hole in the output hose so when the water gets low in the bucket it sprays everyw...

Ok, I'll pick up some aragonite sand and a KH test kit next time I go to the pet store.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Before figure of eight arrives
I'm a new f8 owner. I use tap water with prime conditioner. My ph is 7.8 and someone on here recently said f8's like 8.0 ph. Mine came in freshwater and I am slowly adding marine salt to the water I add back in during water changers. I do about 50% water change per week. Owners on here recommend 50%...

Re: New Figure 8 Owner Questions
My tap water is 7.8. Should I raise it to 8? What do I use to raise it? What would be the effect if I left it at 7.8?
