Re: Shell training ?
Update; I've switched to smaller clams, bought fresh then frozen for 48 hrs, thawed in tank water+Vita-Chem. When cut in half one piece has a minimal amount of meat, I throw that in first and he goes to town scrapping away. Later I add the meatier half which he just eats the chunkier parts of. No mo...

I should of been more clear, he always leaves a layer of meat next to the shell, and does not come close to the shell with his teeth.
I guess my concern over his teeth is a little premature.
Thanks for your replys.

Shell training ?
Two weeks in with my 6" Fahaka, and I'm still pretty excited about him ! Brought him home June 21, the 23th he ate half a shelled raw shrimp, spiting the shell out. On the 25th he comsumed two pieces of Seafood Melodies, 27th I threw in 40 small ghost shrimp that kept him busy for 24 hrs. The 2...

Re: A waste ?
Isn't it crazy though that so many manufactures of these meds (ALL of them, actually!), state to treat the water??? Can't remember where but I've read that fresh water fish absorb the meds/treatments in their water through the gills and solf membranes behind the gills. Is there any truth to that an...

Re: A waste ?
Ok, treatment on hold, what product would you consider suitable bertie, and are you recommending the food be treated because of the more direct contact with the gut or becauce of sensetivities due to the Fahaka being scaleless ? We really have slim pickings here, and even if I don't treat now I'd re...

Re: 6" Fahaka
He's not picky so far, aside from the raw shrimp he goes for anything out of the Seafood Medley bag, and I picked up some fresh live mussels yesterday, (they're in the freezer). Shopping continues for more good crunchy eats !

Re: A waste ?
Well bertie 83 I was'nt planning to treat for IP but you planted that 1% doubt. I'm doing my first water change with the Fahaka today and will be adding PraziPro, it's the most popular treatment in Canada and is added to the tank directly. As you said, "better safe than sorry". 8)

Thank you all for the warm welcome !
Biff Malawi, I picked him up at Discount Dragon Aquarium in Mississauga, next to Big Als. He was a trade in, but they have lots of little Fahakas, lol, 2-3" in size.
