If u don't do live rock be ready to do 4x the amount of water changes due to nitrates going thru the roof with puffers.

I'm sure the puffer will be fine by himself , but most the time new tank = new fish for 99% of the people out there. So adding a filter off an old tank and some live rock isn't gonna work in most new tanks when the bio load goes up for the new fish. Your going to get spikes in ammonia and then the b...

Live rock is a filter for Nitrates not ammonia or nitrite. So if u dont have enough bacteria to convert the ammonia, nitrite to nitrates its just like a cycle starting all over again.

IF its big enough that would be the only fish you could keep in it. If u plan on having more than that 1 puffer find urself atleast a 55g after u add rock and such would be very little room for a fish to swim I'd think in that 30.

The tank still needs to cycle. Even if the filter has some bacteria in it already its not enough to handle the load of a brand new tank. All the live rock will do is help the cycle along it doesn't make the tank ready to use just by adding it.

I think a Niger would work out just fine as long as the puffers dont nip his big tail. Then again it prolly all depends on the fish and the room you have for them.

This is another 1 that all depends on the puffer not wanting to nip tails or eat the clown because there a pretty slow swimmer. I have seen it work out just fine in a friends tank so yes it is possible.

If your tank is 50 gallons and you have 1 GSP and "several" mollies u may have reached your max bio fish capacity. As for tank mates my 2 GSP lives with 2 Yellow Tail Damsels these were left over from a previous tank and had no were to go. If anything the Damsels pick on the puffers they c...
