Re: Mappa Puffer - looking for advice on burping?
With this nigropunctatus mealgris, I would submerge deeply with face up, while inflated - I would have a second pair of hands massage while the other holds upright. Sedation may help this process. Over the last two decades, I have had to needle a few that persisted after multiple attempts or ones th...

Re: Kordon's Ich attack working?
Just a few things to keep in mind when treating ich: 1. Never use any medications in a tank with substrate, live rock, inverts, etc....these are porous and can absorb medications thus making achieving a therapeutic level impossible. There is also the chance that the medication can be leached back at...

Re: Suitable size tank for stars and stripes?
Received your PM about my opinion of your tank and set up - I agree with the advice already given. If you go with this tank, you will definitely need to watch the water quality. Be careful adding wrasses that bury in substrate to sleep. Puffers are nocturnal and will often blow the substrate looking...

Sorry to be a stranger....
Hey all, Sorry to be a stranger but my life has been sheer hell for the last two months. I am trying to stay afloat and in order to save time, here is a link to a thread that explains what is happening: http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic84438-10-1.aspx I will try to stop by as time allows but if you...

Re: Spots on porc & stars puffer
SG. 1.023 (slowly lowering salt to 1.020) fish- 2 GSP (took out yesterday) 1- Porc puffer 1-Stars and stripes added yesterday from qt. This morning when I got up to check on the puffers I noticed that the porcupine puffer has these large spots on her fins. She has had them before for a few days and...

Sorry for your loss.
My first "guess" with the rapid respirations and rapid progression would be parasitic infection/infestation of the gills - possibly velvet.
Was this puffer quarantined?

Re: porcupine puffer keeps getting ich!!
What is the medication or ingredients in the LifeGuard?? If you treated before with this product and it has come back......did it really work the first time or was it just the natural progression/life cycle of the parasite and perhaps a limited immunity. I do NOT recommend adding any medication to a...

I mix up the smallest volume to save medication. I would make up a gallon for a small puffer.

Re: porcupine puffer keeps getting ich!!
Inverts and corals do not "catch" ich. The parasite has to feed off the mucous of a fish. The inverts and corals can transfer/transport ich.

Re: OK, Got Finquel...
You can use the tank water but the finquel can lower the pH. The only problem with shipping with the finquel is there is no guarantee that the fish will not be sensitive to the medication or become too sedated.....this can be used as a euthanasia drug at a different dose.....I would be weary of it. ...

Re: Ok I've learned my lesson, Please HELP! PIX included!
Sorry but my ability to get on line has been affected by a VERY sick cat that requires around the clock iv fluids, iv meds as well as force feeding very two hours. First - Never add medications to a tank with porous materials - substrate, rock, etc.....these will absorb and leech the medications. Fu...
