Re: Losing a Puffer

Oh my gosh! No, I had been chatting with him every couple of years via LinkedIn but he never mentioned that. That is awful!

Re: Losing a Puffer

I am in NC, a little north of Charlotte. Welcome to the area! Yes, their loss was and is terrible. They are buried beside each other. :( I am almost tempted to price out mass spec analysis of my water, whatever the problem is must still be there at some level. I don't know what it was. I have always...

Re: Losing a Puffer

Unfortunately I lost all of my fish but my immortal 7-8yo GSP. My very good lfs was unable to determine why, and even following a $400 75% water change, it didn't help. I am not getting anymore puffs until I have a 120g tank setup next to my 225 (300g total volume) as a refugium packed with dusters,...

Re: Losing a Puffer

My condolences to both of you. I lost my porcupine pine puffer in October. I only had him for three years and am so sad he is gone. It is great to hear I am not the only puffer fanatic. And my condolences to you as well. I love my Diodon Holocanthus [wife named it Floofie.. ]; it has the most...

Re: Losing a Puffer

I am so sorry. I know the feeling, you wake up and your friend isn't there. It isn't nice. My condolences. :'-( I imagine that after 19 years the bond has grown a lot. I feel your pain. Over time, two entirely alien lifeforms find ways to communicate common ideas, and even convey mood. This is a tes...

Losing a Puffer

Well, last night I lost a good friend I've had since about 2010; my Dogface Puffer. It always feels like I've failed when I lose a Puffer, no matter how many years I've had them, as I judge success by percent of maximum lifespan they experience. This is the second puffer I have lost since I began ke...

Re: Arothron Nigropunctatus subdermal parasites

Thanks for the replies! The puff has pretty significant amounts of these foul things unfortunately, I would put it well over 20. I doubt surgery would be survivable with numbers like that. He may be reaching EOL, but I hope not. I guess I'll have to ask a vet at this point. Stupid worms. I am going ...

Arothron Nigropunctatus subdermal parasites

Hello, I searched the lib and forum for endoparasites and got no hits..but then forum search functions aren't very compatible with how I try to use them. Regardless I wasn't able to find anything specifically about subdermal parasite treatment in puffers with Google either. I expect the puff has had...

Re: REQ: Suggestions to keep puffs from becoming bored

http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=16436 Hey there. :) Thank you! I don't know why, but somehow this all reminds me of a few weeks ago when I went to a local Sashimi place and they offered me Fugu; I counter offered to buy the puff outright instead. They were weirded out a...

Re: REQ: Suggestions to keep puffs from becoming bored

^this. My advice would be to just get it over with and go full marine. I concur. I acclimated my GSP over a good period of time, changing salinity by no more than 0.001 at a time. What would be very helpful to folks, is if someone had a link to a paper that shows at what stage in their life they mo...

Re: REQ: Suggestions to keep puffs from becoming bored

Havent heard of liveplants.com. I normally get my macro from John at reef cleaners. A macro display can be very beautiful and complex. Are they like Inlandaquatics used to be, where you can order a big gnarly bag of worms and such? I have been trying to find a worm vendor ever since Inland shutdown...

Re: REQ: Suggestions to keep puffs from becoming bored

Decoration for them to navigate through. It's unfortunate you don't want live rock in the display my gsp loves scanning the rock looking for critters to eat. I experimented with it for a while, but the sustained current required to clean up after their 3 meals per day blew them around......they did...

REQ: Suggestions to keep puffs from becoming bored

Hello, I have been gone for a while, since losing my Arothron Mappa (family and I still miss it), but now I am back. Recently I moved, which allowed me to get rid of the restrictions placed upon the size of any one tank, since I own the place. Here are the current inhabitants along with tank size an...

RIP Mappa :'(

Well...unfortunately my wonderful 14" Arothron Mappa puffer, Mappa, ate air once again as predicted...and this time he ate too much, and it went too far into his body...and today at around 5PM....he died. The air had gone into his intestines and blown them up to the size of bratwurst. Hid death...
