What is wrong with this congo puffer??

Hi all,

I read on a local fish hobby forum where somebody bought a congo puffer, checked the parameters are all fine, and yet his newly bought puffer is swimming weirdly. Can anybody help out?

Re: Puffer jumped out of tank !

Hi guys, sorry for the late reply. My congo is back to his usual self, and I've got a cover now. Never knew of puffers jumping, though I did fill up water till 1/2 inch from the brim. Thanks for all the help.

Puffer jumped out of tank !

Hi, I found my congo puffer out of the tank. Apparently, it jumped out and landed on my floor from a height of almost 4ft. I've no idea how long it was out of water. When i picked it up and put it back, it resumed swimming, but it is obviously still not well. Currently, it is just laying still for t...

Also you may never see more growth from your congo in captivity.

The lack of growth is just congo puffers? I mean I don't see that with the other freshwater puffers.

Re: Questions on Congo Puffer's appetite

After 3 weeks, he finally ate the ghost shrimp. I had thought he was intimidated due to his lack of aggression. One thing i never understood is why does the congo puffer not show aggressive behaviour towards the ghost shrimp openly? It's always only in the morning that I discovered the ghost shrimps...

Questions on Congo Puffer's appetite

Hi, I got my congo puffer about 6 months ago when it was about 3.5in to 4in max. I have been doing regular weekly WC of about 40% and he's quite happy on a 22g tank, albeit it could be slightly bigger. He doesn't swim around much, never explores the cave at the back of the tank and spends time buryi...

Re: Congo or Hairy??

Guys, I'm buying sand for the congo puffer tank.

1) how fine or coarse should the sand be? We have from no 0 to no 5, 0 being powder fine ones.
2) can I use coral sand no 1?

Kindly advise.

Re: Congo or Hairy??

Hairy's been sold.. Btw, for puffers that like burying themselves in DSB, would the fine powdery type be better or the slightly coarser ones, ie bits of 1-2mm

Re: Congo or Hairy??

Well, i probably will place an order as they don't come in often. However, from what i've seen in the past, the prices for puffers in Singapore are around these range Red Congo Puffer - USD$55 (doesn't come in often, so i may be wrong) 2 inches Fahaka - USD $10 5 inches Mbu - UDS $50-55 4 inches Hai...

Congo or Hairy??

Hi, I'm planning to get either a red congo puffer or hairy puffer for my FW, 24" x 18" x 18". My questions are 1) Is it advisable to put my hands in as I used to do it regularly with my Dwarf puffers. Will they bite? 2) should they bite, is it toxic? Or to be treated like all superfic...

Re: Hello from sunny Singapore!

Dang I miss S'pore ... Other than physical space you are in an ideal location to keep and get exotic puffers. I really do envy you. Plant upkeep is 1 topic puffer keeping is a different topic. But can and will be, big jobs. Try to keep it as simple as possible, and as easy to maintain as possible. ...

Re: Newly set up planted tank - advice needed

FYI, SAEs only eat algae as immature fish. As they mature they switch to high-protein diets and are too big and waste-producing for this tank. HTH My SAE is eating the same bloodworms as my DPs. In fact, i think it's pretty useful as they tend to feed on scraps or leftover food on the subtrate. Qui...

Hi, just saw a dead Oto in my tank. It had an inflated belly with a obvious red mark on it. Was it an attack? I do have 6 Dps, 3 Yamatos, and 2 SAE.

Re: DPs with weird behaviour

Hi paws, Yeah, they seem to reduce on that weird behaviour now and I did got them from Seaview. Can't go wrong at $0.80.. As for IP, how did you find out and what did you do about it? I tried soaking the bloodworms in Prazi Gold for a couple of their first few meals as a precautionary measure but no...
