Yuck! I got green algae and a tiny bit of the darker variety (BGA?) My water parameters are almost there so I will be buying some Bumble Bees soon if I don't get sidetracked by the Red Chromides that is. I do have all this white silt-like material at the water surface that I've never seen before on ...

Seems like a nice home for a puffer. I'm sure he will like being El Hefe of the tank.

So the person/shop you got it from did not know the species, but just knew it was a brackish puffer? Most commonly traded 6" brackish puffers would be Ceylon or GSP from what I've read.

manutius: that link didn't work for me. Hmmm, maybe switch the position of the lg. rock and the roots. I guess the luxury of waiting a few weeks to cycle is you can try out all these things. I did find some Chromides in Austin, but the shop couldn't confirm if they were the Orange variety. Maybe I b...

Thank you all for the encouragement. On a side note it makes me mad to hear that the aragonite I used was possibly illegally obtained: http://www.usdoj.gov/usao/fls/PressReleases/061108-04.html Well looks like the BB Gobies are next after the cycling is done. I was going to consider Orange Chromides...

Sounds like you have a 35-40 gallon tank so that would work out to a little about 2w/gallon. I think that would be considered in the low to mid range which would confine your choices a bit. Supposedly the darker the greens of the plant the less light they need but do your research someplace like her...

Doesn't "regular" sand become compacted leading to an anaerobic bacteria problem. Supposedly it doesn't have the open structure of larger grained substrates which creates this.

Crazy: I'm inclined to CO2, especially the low cost DIY 2 liter coke bottle types. Your planted brackish isn't so large that this wouldn't be an option. I have no idea about the aragonite/coral dissolving - how would that happen?
