Re: 40 Breeder Freshwater Puffer Suggestions?

The problem with keeping the SAP is they are very active swimmers, requiring a long footprint, rather than the wide one of a breeder-style tank. Also, they prefer to live in groups. I knew they were active fish and liked groups (wasn't sure quite how many was best though honestly) but had always he...

Re: 40 Breeder Freshwater Puffer Suggestions?

If you're that set on an active freshwater puffer the first one that came to my mind was the South American Puffer. http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/library/puffers-in-focus/sap/ They do need a diet thats very high in hard/shelled foods (breeding snails could provide a large part of their diet) b...

I get excited seeing everything doing well and will definitely continue to share, I enjoy it! As I've said before, I look forward to seeing yours, especially when you begin stocking. Fair wa...

Re: Tank Progression: 60 gallon

Thank you! I'm so happy that the torch and frogspawn have been doing well, after what happened to the hammer especially. Not to mention the way the ricordeas had reacted before, when they weren't opening/etc, and now they're out fully every day but do shrink up at night. Such a big difference in siz...

Re: Tank Progression: 60 gallon

Still no updates on the 90g really. I still need to get the plumbing situated in the overflow to quiet it down before I'd want it up and running. I basically just need to get to Lowes and double check what I need. Thinking about getting what I need to just do this: http://www.dursostandpipes.com/ An...

Re: Spider Eye Toby Puffer (Canthigaster amboinensis)

Yes, added separately. Thank you. He is still available I'm just still trying to decide though I know there would be a chance he may still not be available if I take too long to think on this. Any issues with the two puffers getting along worries me and also risking it with another fish that may ve...

Re: Marine tank no sump?

I had understood that play sand did contain silicates, wasn't sure about pool filter sand though, that and the look/color is why I just went with aragonite. I believe the damsels mentioned are usually relatively peaceful compared to others but damsels are generally (or end up) being semi/aggressive....

Re: Marine tank no sump?

Lol. I guess those arrow crabs are different at least, though they would limit what you could stock in terms of fish at least. But if its a must have the fish stocking will have to work around him anyway. Good luck finding the pool sand, or any sand that is suitable and reasonably priced. I know I m...

Re: Marine tank no sump?

Also I hear a lot about pool filter sand but do not seem to be able to find it here. Phoned up a swimming pool company and confused them so I have little hope of finding it. Stuff is so expensive where I am too so when you do find it its rediculously priced and I hate using the Internet unless I ha...

Re: Marine tank no sump?

This tank is a 5 foot bow front, close to 3 foot deep top to bottom and just over 2 foot front to back in the centre. It's a fair size. Now for future stocking who knows as this is a warm up tank, just want to find my feet and I feel a tank this size should be easy to keep stable. Arognite round he...

Re: Marine tank no sump?

I used arognite in my tank, dry not live. I can't remember exactly what the grain size was called that I got but its pretty fine. Guess the grain size would come into play if you wanted to keep anything that would bury in the sand, like my wrasse does to sleep. I also believe the arognite is helpful...

Re: Spider Eye Toby Puffer (Canthigaster amboinensis)

Thanks for all of the responses. I know it always comes down the the personality of the individual puffer but it just seemed that the tobys weren't quite as aggressive as others and that I had read over something mentioning two tobys being kept together. My current puffer hasn't shown any aggression...

Re: I need advise asap.... GSP

If the previous owner is giving up the fish, can't you get the filter media from him, too? That will have most of the bacteria you need to support him. Just make sure to remove any extra fish in there. Hi, Thanks for reply. I will get some of the filter media from the previous owner. But why I shou...

Spider Eye Toby Puffer (Canthigaster amboinensis)

I remember reading, or more so seeing photos of this puffer, when I was looking into the different toby puffers for my tank. I hadn't ever seen one listed for sale before and am thinking they aren't offered often? I can't say I've tried hard to look before but I just came across one on Live Aquaria ...

Re: Tank Progression: 60 gallon

I was wondering what happened to you! Sorry about Granny... :( My thoughts are with you and your family in this difficult time. Thank you both. This has been the first time I've really ever dealt with a death of anyone that I was actually close to. We did know it was coming because she was diagnose...
