Re: Bored Puffer

Here is a pic of my tank when I first set it up before I added my F8. Since then I haven't changed much. Just added a skull with holes in the eyes and back of the skull. He goes in there often. Especially at night when he's sleeping. Also added a blue background. Driftwood is real. Still not sinking...

Bored Puffer

Hi all,,

I've had my F8 puffer for about 2 months now and he's doing great. I have him in a 15 gallon brackish tank (1.004) all by himself. He seems to do well but sometimes I feel that another F8 should be with him. Anybody keep only 1 puffer. Is it possible to have 2 in a 15 gallon?

F8 Puffer experience

I checked out my LFS that I usually go to get my stock and asked if they would be getting any F8's. They said they would in a few weeks. So I went in after a few weeks and I saw the small sectioned off tank that they keep the F8's in (with Plecos). All were dead. All 6 of them. When I asked if they ...

Re: Just got my new F8

Do you eventually take the empty snail shell out of the aquarium or let the puffer pick on it for a while?

Re: Just got my new F8

Puffers have to hunt for their food in nature, so its good for them to hunt in the aquarium. He'll find it. OH man! Once I fed him some blood worms I walked away. I then turned around and he found the snail. He absolutely destroyed the poor thing. I felt like a proud parent that just saw my son hit...

Just got my new F8

Hey guys, Just brought my new F8 home. Guy at the fs told me to get 2 for a 15 gallon but after I brought him home I saw that aqadvisor said that I would be way to overstocked so I returned him. I still have a few questions though. I put a snail in for him but he's too busy exploring. I lost the sna...

Re: Feeding puffer bloodworms?

OK, so the cone is only for live worms? It looks cool and it would be nice to put worms in there and just let him eat at his leisure. Could you use it for dead worms too??

Re: Feeding puffer bloodworms?

The most efficient way to do it is to buy one of those feeder cones so that your f8 can just go and grab them himself without having to worry about uneaten worms. As for preparation you were correct, the blood worms should be defrosted first in tank water. Get a little cup preferably Tupperware and...

Feeding puffer bloodworms?

I should have my figure 8 by this weekend. I'm still studying up and investigating all I can before I get him because I want to make sure I do everything right. I noticed a video on youtube where a kid feeds puffers a frozen cube of bloodworms and I"m guessing that is not the right way to do it...

Oh, sweet. Looking into the sponge filter now. Looks easy enough. Just use an air pump and throw the filter into the pail? May have to look into this.

Re: New figure 8 puffer

You can go that route if you want, but you can get a cheapo 5gal pail and put it anywhere on the floor or what ever and its much easier to get the snails out to feed in a pail. But good luck with the snail breeding! If you do water changes you'll get them breeding. My tip would be to not use gravel...

Re: Advice please

The bubbler is going to spray salt particles everywhere, especially all over the light fixture. What did you use for a bacteria source? Good to know. I'll remove it once I'm cycled. I'm using shoprite pure ammonia to feed the tank and that is all. Just letting the bacteria build up on it's own. I d...

Re: New figure 8 puffer

I think a 5 is best because realistically they will reproduce. You will still need to do water changes on the snail tank. If you are feeding the snails carrots or cucumber once a week, there is really not a need to have natural light hit the tank. I took some measurements last night and it looks li...
