What kind of algae is this and how can I get rid of it?

Is this hair algae? At first I thought it was bubble algae but it doesnt seem to be, it just has some gas bubbles clinging to it I think. Its not running rampant in my tank, these two pictures show the extent of it, but if I can i'd like to get rid of it, not sure where it even came from, it was nev...

Building a custom 10g nano-sump

So I want to build a 10g sump for my 37g marine tank. I'm currently in the planning stages but i've somewhat mapped out what my plan is and I'm looking for whatever advice you can lend. first off, I'm dealing with a cabinet under my tank that is 15.5" high, by 27" wide and 18" deep, s...

Re: It's been a while, but I'm back!

This light is really doing amazing things to my rock. Keep in mind that this rock was all just white dry-rock from marco rocks. It grew a lot of green and red algae under the old light, but with the new light its really coming alive. This is after only a week or so. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums...

Re: It's been a while, but I'm back!

Great looking tank. Rockscape looks amazing. If your future zoas is not getting enough light (low PAR value), then consider taking off the glass cover since the black strip is blocking out a lot of light. Keep us updated. I agree big time here, I notice a huge difference with the top on vs. off as ...

Re: It's been a while, but I'm back!

i could, but I think i'm done with gsp for a while. My girlfriend has one in a 29 that is doing great, so I can just live my puffer-keeping life vicariously through her.

It's been a while, but I'm back!

i'm sure you all missed me very much. just thought i'd stop in and post up what i've been up to here. For those who dont know, I had a 37g FOWLR tank w/ marineland LED hood and CPR bak pak that housed my fuzzy dwarf lion. Had him for almost a year. looked like this. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums...

beautiful fish, but isn't that tank way too small for a T. Mbu?

Re: F8 in the family!

my lion seems to also not like total darkness. 99% of the time I have actinic blue moonlights on at night, but the 2 times I have shut the lights off completely, it lasted about 30 seconds before I heard him thud against the hood of the tank a few times. No idea why darkness would make him want to j...

Re: Mbu puffer is dying

I'm pretty sure that a 180 gallon tank is far too small for a mbu puffer by itself, let alone with a bunch of africans. you really need to post more info on your tank setup, filtration, etc. Because with that tank size your water could go toxic without large frequent water changes. without knowing w...

Re: What did you do with your tank today

I finally got sick of all the noise that my bak pak was making. Went and asked the guy I get all my aquarium stuff from if he knew of anything I could do. He had a really ingenious way of solving the issue. what we did was cap off the air intake for the accela pump and instead use a dedicated air pu...

Re: 37g w/ dwarf lion. Tankmates?

I haven't been able to get another one yet. The LFS has been having trouble sourcing them (out of season or something maybe?) Seems like all of his suppliers are fresh out of dfl's

The plan is still just to get another one as soon as I can get one locally.

Re: Instant Ocean Sea Salt - Confused

secondly, you need to learn to read. 1.5 POUNDS (thats what lbs means) of salt will raise the specific gravity of 5 gallons of fresh water to 1.022, not 1.5 gallons of salt...

Re: What vitamins do I add to puffers food?

definitely don't use half and half, you'll end up spending like $100/week on vitamins... it just takes a few drops in the water that you use to thaw your food..
