Re: Fig's lumpy tummy :(
I just got my Figure Eight within the last week as well. I had read on this forum that it was likely I needed to treat for IPs. I have been soaking food in IP medication and have already seen the puffer pass a visible worm or two. I would definitely treat for IPs. Mine seems to freak out a little wh...

Re: GPS's new home - Update
I was able to purchase a kH test kit for less than 10 dollars at my LFS. It might be worth it.

Themistocles the F8!
I finally got my Figure Eight Puffer, Themistocles! I acclimated him slowly into the cycled 20 gallon long yesterday. It immediately began exploring it's environment and has yet to show any serious signs of stress. Thanks for all the help from people on this forum in getting started correctly! I alr...

Re: Verify F8 Setup
Ya you are correct RTR. Luckily I have a photo editing panel that is well calibrated frequently, but I have seen some crazy differences on lower quality lcds. It's too unpredictable

Re: Verify F8 Setup
That's kind of what I expected. I will probably just do a species only tank then.

Re: Verify F8 Setup
Nice suggestion, I may just have to do that sometime lol...It's usually not a problem, I'm a college student and my roommate is usually around to check the colors. I also had one more question (maybe get RTR's opinion also?) about whether or not keeping a low number of bumblebee gobies in the same t...

Re: Verify F8 Setup
Thanks! Should I be testing kH as well? What hardness does a F8 prefer? I am thinking from my substrate choice and rocks it should be at fairly correct levels.

Re: Verify F8 Setup
Ya, I think ph is around 8.0 (...colorblindness makes these API color tests a pain lol...gotta get my friend to verify, but I think I'm right.) I beleive the aragonite is a good buffer. I'll continue checking twice daily. I started a journal for this tank to record water parameters/feeding times jus...

Re: Verify F8 Setup
Just checked water parameters
Ammonia: 1-2 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: 30ppm
Will check again tomorrow night. Only about 4 plants in the tank of significant size. Continuing to provide ammonia source.

Re: Verify F8 Setup
Im running the tank with the lights off and continuing to keep ammonia in the tank. I definitely have at least a microcycle going, but I think it needs to go longer, as I understand puffers have a high bioload
