Re: Puff Wasting Away, How Often to Feed?

Well he's still kicking. Tuesday night honestly I went to bed thinking he would be dead when I woke up. But he was alive. I am treating him with flubendazole. Hopefully he'll pull through. He is just so skinny I am not convinced he'll be able to gain weight once it is all over even if he's "cur...

Re: Uh-Oh... I GOT 2 (I thought) FIGURE EIGHT PUFFERS!! :D

I'm not sure if you already knew this or not but a real quick easy way to tell fig 8s from ceylons is to look at the base of the tail and the base of the dorsal fin on the body. Figure 8s have a definite dark spot in both places and ceylons don't. Check out pictures of both and you'll see what I mea...

Re: Puff Wasting Away, How Often to Feed?

I guess I should have posted in the hospital section instead. Hope nobody minds me posting in here. I started the pumpkin seed treatment last night, using bloodworms. I ground and cooked the pumpkin seeds in water, strained them out, put the bloodworms in the milky water and put that in the fridge f...

Puff Wasting Away, How Often to Feed?

Two weeks ago I was given a GSP that is about 1.5 inches TL. He looked healthy at the time and not too skinny but almost as soon as I brought him home he started losing weight. I have been feeding it live brine shrimp, live snails, frozen bloodworms, and frozen mysis shrimp. I feed it once a day unt...

Thank you very much for that RTR. It does explain the differences in the information I have been getting. I did not destroy the bacteria in the tank and watched it very closely with the other puffer. Maybe he just wouldn't have made it no matter what I did. I went to walmart today and they had Figur...

This is frustrating. I don't want to offend the people at the LFS because it is the only LFS within 30 miles of where I live other than chain petstores. I go in there all the time. I have other fish, all freshwater, and they do much better with those, but lately as I have been interested in brackish...

I wish I had known that :(. I had read other places and been advised by others that it was OK to do it faster than that. I was thinking raising it would help cure him of his ich, and it did, but, well the rest of the story is there. Still can't be sure that was it but just in case, I will certainly ...

The one that I got a couple weeks ago that died the other day was in freshwater at the store. He came in with a shipment of dwarf puffers and apparently I was the first to recognize that he was a figure 8. I raised the salinity to 1.006 over about ten days, although I didn't think it was quite that ...

F8 in saltwater at LFS

Yesterday when I was in the LFS I saw what I think was a 3" F8 in saltwater along with some GSPs. They don't have brackish tanks so whatever they get they put into either fresh or marine. Its pretty irritating. Anyways, this puffer was so washed out it was basically a light brown mottled color ...
