Away for Deployment

Hey all, I haven't had a chance to get on in a few months due to a last-minute deployment a while back. I am still around, so please don't delete my account. I will likely be back on regularly in January.

Re: What puffer??

You'll have to keep us posted on that 3d background. I'd like to build one someday. :) I breed cherry shrimp, ramshorn snails, pond snails, and mystery snails all in a 30g tank with very few problems. I put a new lettuce leaf in there every day and it seems to keep them from eating the eggs. Even th...

Re: Algae Outbreak

Let us know how it goes.

You could also add some large mystery or apple snails as well, assuming the puffer can't eat them at that size. You mentioned it isn't on the glass. Go grab a cotton ball and wipe it on the inside of the glass. It is likely there too, but not as visible.

Re: Help. Snails needed urgently.

I would just go to Petco or Petsmart and ask them for some there. I can generally get 50-100 per visit for free. You can also buy bloodworms or small earthworms if he will take either of those. I don't know many puffers that can resist a wriggling worm.

Re: Wild food.

I would just make sure to freeze the crays before feeding to prevent pathogens getting to your puffer. @goldie ~ are there really crayfish species where the female only grows one claw? That seems awfully strange for crayfish. The marmorkrebs I breed lose claws occasionally, but they always grow back...

Re: dentistry alternative?

Even RTR's signature line is the same lol. +1 to the above. I don't consider clove oil to be good idea unless you want to euthanize the fish, which you could end up doing if you aren't careful. Finquel works great for my SAPs.

+1. Lots more control equals less chance of harming your puffer.

Re: Trapdoor snail babies!

Sure, their slow moving enough. I'll take some tomorrow, although they basically look like pond snails right now. I don't have any pictures of the sac.

Re: Ammonia Problems

I like baking soda because I feel like I have more control over it. You can have the kh be constant. Aragonite works, but it is a gradual thing and doesn't last forever IME.

Re: Ammonia Problems

+1 to trashing the strips. I would get a liquid test kit. The best way I know to raise Kh is by dosing baking soda.
