Re: Cycling with established live rock??
J-P: I have not been doing much for feeding the bacteria. When I got the rock it was all covered in coralline algae, and now there is only about 30% left, so there was some die off over time. I would also dispose of the vitamin water I soak benjis food in into the trashcan full of my rock.

Cycling with established live rock??
Just got done adding all the sand, water, and LR to my new tank for benji (my S&S). He was in the 80 gallon I had set up undergoing hypo salinity to rid the ich of the tank/LR. The LR has been in a trashcan with a powerhead and a heater for about 3 months now. My question is, will I have a small...

Littleneck clam advice.
I got some littleneck clams from my seafood dept at my grocery store last week and they have been freezing for that time. They are not on the half shell. How do I go about cracking them open? And are they ok for puffers??

Re: New Tank Setup!
I would say diatoms. Take a turkey baster and blow it off and let the filter take care of it. Is all the water in your tank RO/DI water?

Re: New Tank Setup!
The LR would only need a powerhead if it was being stored more than the car ride, so you will be fine. As for raising the salinity, follow the instructions on the back of the salt mix bucket. My S&S puffer is at .010 SG since I am in the process of eradicating Crypt from his system/tank. When I ...

PP I am also in the market for a RO/DI system. Which one would you recommend/use? If I were to choose one I would pick the drinking water and reef system. I know nothing about what to look for in these systems.

Re: New Tank Setup!
Are you going to get a background? I highly recommend it, and I also recommend deciding before you fill the tank. Adding a background to a full tank can be, well, a pain in the rear.

Re: New Tank Setup!
Congrats on the new setup!! I know you've been eager to get everything you need. First things first, your RO/DI water, you can get it cheaper than what the LFS is selling it for. Out in front of most supermarkets are AquaFills, or RO/DIwater dispensers. I know that the local ones in my area (dana po...
