Re: dwarf puffer care

Our Dwarfs are very sociable with us. Always up front checking us out when we come near. We have 4 (1Male 3 Females) in a 10 gal. tank. They share the tank with 2 Corydoras. We have had them for about 3 years now and they have never shown any agression towards eachother. They sure are cute! Good luc...

I am kind of confused here. this tank has been running for a long time Were there fish in there you removed, before you placed the puffer in the tank? Was it a FW tank & you just added enough salt to match the puffer's previous S1.010? I answer to your Q, either way, if the tank was a "cyc...

Moving water does nothing, and squeezing a sponge doesn't do much more. Only very tiny amounts of the good bacteria are in the water column, its all on surfaces like gravel, decor and the filter. And it takes time to propagate from those surfaces to others, especially in a larger tank. Basically yo...

You said you are preparing a new (larger?) home. How are you cycling it? If you move everything over from the old tank (substrate, decor filter) then add more substrate & larger filter, all the bacteria that was supporting the pufffer previously will be there to support the puffer in the new ta...

OK the new home for our GSP is ready to prep. I am reading if I raise the SG too fast I will kill off the FW beneficial bacteria I already have in this well established FW tank. I am reading about SW beneficial bacteria being different. My problem is our GSP is in a SG of 1.010 at the moment. I rea...

I have the Hagen Ammonia test kit but the water just went cloudy with the Brackish water. It did not show any yellow! Thanks for the advice.

Sounds like we still can't decide what he is yet. I have a question about Ammonia test kits for saltwater. Will they work for brackish? The reason I ask is I only have a fresh water test kit. I would like to go and buy one, do you have any recomendations to which kind to buy. I just want to be posit...

A 4 1/2" fish in a 14g? How soon are you planning the upgrade? Soon, I hope. How was the tank cycled? You need to be doing 50% water changes every day on that small tank, with that much bioload going on. No worries about water changes, I am on top of those. I hope to have the tank moved this w...

I apologize again for the pictures, they are very dark and do not really show the puffer very well. I assure you that he is not as dark as he appears in the picture. The PH is 8.0, Nitrates and ammonia = 0. The temp is 76F. SG ~ 1.005. The tank is small (14gal) but only temporary. He eats like a pig...

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I stand corrected on a few things from my first post. Sorry about the wrong index. Also thanks for correcting me about the refractometer. Very nice info about the puffers in the library. I was looking at the pictures of GSP's and wondered if our puffer was in fact a GSP so I a...
